The Brahmatal Trek is a popular winter trek located in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is a relatively easy to moderate level trek that offers stunning views of the Himalayas, beautiful forests, meadows, and high-altitude lakes. Lohajung is the starting point for the Brahmatal trek, and it is located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India , so I took an overnight bus from Delhi to Kathgodam ,I booked my trek from a local trekking company in Lohajung (Himalayan Climber) few days back which cost me around Rs-8500 . Once I reached Kathgodam there was a tempo traveller waiting to pick me & other trekkers up for our onward journey towards the base of Brahmatal i.e. Lohajung.

The journey from Kathgodam to Lohajung is a long but scenic one, taking you through the lush green valleys and snow-capped peaks of Uttarakhand's mountain ranges. The entire journey from Kathgodam to Lohajung takes around 9-10 hours.

Starting Point: Lohajung

The trek starts from the village of Lohajung, which is about 225 km from Rishikesh. The village is surrounded by beautiful forests of rhododendron and oak trees, and offers spectacular views of the Himalayas. The village is also a popular starting point for other treks in the region, such as the famous Roopkund Trek and the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek.

The Brahmatal Trek takes you through several charming villages, forests, and meadows.

Day 1: Lohajung to Bekaltal.

The trek starts with a gradual ascent through the forest, passing through the village of Kuling. You will camp at Bekaltal for the night,The trek to Bekaltal is a gradual ascent, taking you through dense forests, picturesque meadows, and beautiful waterfalls. You'll also get to enjoy stunning views of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas along the way. The total trek distance is around 6-7 km, and it takes around 3-4 hours to complete, depending on your pace.

Day 2: Bekaltal to Brahmatal Lake.

The second day of the trek is a bit more challenging, as you will be trekking uphill to reach Brahmatal. The trail takes you through beautiful forests of oak and rhododendron trees, and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks, you will reach the top of the ridge, where you will see the beautiful Brahmatal Lake a beautiful lake situated at an altitude of 3,400 meters. You'll need to cross the lake and ascend through the dense forests to reach Telandi, which is the next stop on the trek.

Day 3: Brahmatal Lake to Brahmatal Summit.

The trek from Brahmatal lake to Brahmatal Summit is an exciting adventure that takes you to the highest point of the trek, the trek starts from the stunning Brahmatal Lake, which is situated at an altitude of 3,400 meters. From here, you'll start trekking towards the summit.

The trek to Brahmatal Summit is around 4-5 km from the lake and it takes around 3-4 hours, depending on your pace. The trail is steep and challenging but offers majestic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The summit is situated at an altitude of 12,250 feet and offers panoramic views of the Himalayas.

At the summit, take a moment to soak in the beauty of the Himalayan ranges and the surrounding valleys. The view from the summit is spectacular, and you'll feel a sense of achievement for making it to the top, you get clear views of some big mountains in-front of you Mt.Trishul , Mt Nanda Ghunti , Chaukhamba Massif to name a few , apart from these peaks, you'll also be able to see several other Himalayan ranges and valleys from the summit. The view is truly awe-inspiring and is one of the main highlights of the Brahmatal trek.

Day 4: Brahmatal Summit to Daldum.

The trek is a gradual descent through beautiful meadows and forests. The trail takes you through the charming village of Daldum, where you will camp for the night ,the trek starts from the picturesque Brahmatal top & is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas , trek from Brahmatal to Daldum takes you through dense forests, scenic meadows, and remote villages. The trek is mostly downhill and offers stunning views of the valley below.

Explore Daldum: Upon reaching Daldum, you can explore the village and its surroundings. Daldum is a remote village situated at an altitude of 1,600 meters, and is known for its rich culture and heritage.

Day 5: Daldum to Lohajung.

The final day of the trek is an easy descent through the forest, passing through several small villages,As you hike through the forests, you'll be surrounded by the sounds of nature, including chirping birds, rustling leaves, and flowing streams. You will reach Lohajung by afternoon, and can spend the rest of the day exploring the village and relaxing.

The Best Time to Do the Trek.

Being a perfect winter trek the best time to do the Brahmatal Trek is from December to March, when the entire region is covered in snow. The snow-covered landscapes are simply breathtaking, and the views of the surrounding peaks are truly mesmerizing. However, the trek can also be done in the summer months of April to June, when the weather is pleasant and the meadows are covered in beautiful wildflowers.
