At Kiama

This is the first leg of my Australia-hopping series :) We landed one early morning in Sydney to a really nice and pleasant weather in late November...the best time to visit this continent-country as there season cycle is completely contrast with the weather cycle in India. We had that day at our leisure-which we spent by going around the CBD area (close to where we were staying) and taking full advantage of the free city bus to local attractions like the memorial park. Over the next three-four days we went around the city and some nearby attractions, as detailed below:

1. Sydney City Tour: These start really early morning-like 7 am pick-ups! Prior booking is mandatory and make sure you reach on time at your designated (and pre-communicated) pick-up point...as they tend to be very punctual and totally disinclined to wait for late passengers. However, this is a great way to visit some local attractions and also hear and understand the history and evolution of the city and surrounding areas. Your bus driver doubles up as your tour guide and they are generally very witty and full of anecdotes...so its a day well spent. We visited the Sydney Opera house, The Harbour Bridge, The docks, Darling Harbour, Manly Beach and some other local attractions.

2. Sydney Showboat Cruise: A 4 hour cruise on the showboat promises an evening full of fun and entertainment with dances and magic shows as you will be served a 7-course meal of your choice. tip: You can also choose to visit the Casino in the vicinity of the docks once you are back around 11 pm.

3. Blue Mountains: Home to some endangered Aboriginal tribes, blue mountains got there name due to the presence of Eucalyptus trees which emanate oil fumes which mixed wih air in the atmosphere tend to give out a blue hue to the surroundings. There is a Aboriginal show that you can catch which details there history and lifestyle. TIP: Make sure you stop by Leura- a fairytale village on your way back for a quick bite of the local cuisine and humongous helpings of locally made yummy ice-cream :)

4. Featherdale Wildlife Park: You can hand feed a kangaroo, wallaby or emu - or enjoy a face-to-face encounter with the friendly koalas - amongst one of Australia's largest private collections of Australian native animals and bird life.

5. Kiama: It is a township 120 kilometres south of Sydney in the Illawarra, New South Wales. One of the main tourist attractions is the Kiama Blowhole. The seaside town features several popular surfing beaches, caravan parks and numerous alfresco cafes and restaurants. Under certain sea conditions, the blowhole can spray water up to 25 metres (82 ft) in the air, in quantities that thoroughly drench any bystanders. This tucked away hidden gem of a place is one of the best locales in the NSW outback.

6. Sydney Cricket Ground: For all the cricket fanatics-need I say more? Take a tour of this historic ground and get entry into the hallowed dressing rooms, the Bradman bar and other iconic areas in the vicinity. The world famous Allianz stadium is in the same campus-the mecca of football fans!

7. Bondi Beach: Famous for its water sports, and other beach sports such as beach volleyball..this is not a very big beach but offers scenic views from the shore.
