I have travelled to a few countries in Europe until now, and while on my trips I got chance to see few of the castles in Scotland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic & Hungary. There are thousands of more castle in Europe with medieval architecture and they are very beautiful.
These are some of the castles that are so gorgeous that they deserve to be visited on your trip to Europe:
1. Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven, Scotland
I visited this castle in 2016 when I was on a business trip to UK. This castle is a ruined medieval fortress located on a rocky headland in the northeastern coast of Scotland, about 3.2 km south of Stonehaven.
Visit on a sunny day to enjoy beautiful scenery in the background and the lush greenery around it. A small beach is a surprise downside of the cliff.
2. Inverness Castle, Inverness, Scotland
From this castle you will get spectacular view of the Inverness town. I would recommend to visit this place specially in the evening. Not only this castle but Inverness is famous for the beautiful loch ness (ness lake) where they say lake.of Nessy Monster. There is a movie on it 'water horse'. The town itself is beautiful to go for a hike and have a cruise trip in the lake where you will see more castles.
3. Edinburg Castle
Edinburg Castle is one of the oldest castles in UK. The view from the castle is stunning as you can see whole city from it. Visit this castle on a sunny day as the weather is very unpredictable in UK, and not always a blue sky. This castle has a rich history and lot of things to see in the museums.
4. Buda Castle, Budapest, Hungary
View from this castle is spectacular and the Budapest city looks magical. I was lucky to be in Budapest for a month in summer. Visit the castle in the evening to click your best photos
5. Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau, Bavaria, Germany
Home of the King Ludwig and hohenschwangau castle is the place where he used to stay in his child hood. People also call it the Disney Castle.
You will love the first glimpse of the castle that you get from the Marienbruck. Take a ten minute hike from the end of the bridge to get a landscape view and get surprised by a lake too.
6.Hohensalzburg Castle, Salzburg, Austria
It is a fully preserved castle in Central Europe. This is the hallmark of Salzburg and gets millions of tourists driven to Salzburg. It is also known as the City of Mozart. Salzburg is a very happening and lively city to explore with rich history. There are many street artists everywhere near the castle who entertain the visitors with their musical skills.
7. Prague Castle, Prague, Czech Republic
Built in 9th century and currently the office of the president, the Prague Castle can be best explored walking. The view from the castle is straight out of a fairytale. A walk through St Vitus cathedral and Golden lane is highly recommended.
8. State Castle and Chateau, Český Krumlov, Czech Republic
If you are visiting Prague, do not forget to take a walk to Cesky Krumlov UNESCO World Heritage town. The views are stunning and will leave you spell-bound. It is a small town easy to explore by walk, so a day trip is recommended.
