Goa v/s Delhi

No, I didn't write Goa by mistake for Mumbai. Here I want to talk about these two cities for a particular reason.

From 2017-2019,I have visited both the cities twice for the first time in my life. So, till then I only had other’s views and vlogs to refer to. But now when I have already visited these places, I have my opinion to share in terms of People’s mindsets.

If you area girl, close your eyes, and imagine yourselves in Goa and Delhi. If you are a boy, imagine your sister/friend in both cities.

Bang!

You got my point.I am sure most of you must have imagined the girl in Goa in short dress/swimwear/comfortable clothing enjoying the place on bikes, breeze on hair and confident. While in Delhi even when she is in full clothes and face covered with dupatta, still she is conscious all the time.

Why so?

According to me, it is that city image which people around us have created on our minds. Of course, the data shows a higher number of crimes in Delhi than Goa but the fear is created by people.

Why in Delhi a girl has a time limit to come home? Because of the crime rate?

Why crime is increasing? Because it is set in people’s minds that Delhi is unsafe thus culprit is roaming fearlessly.

What made Do people do that? No fear of law in the culprit’s mind.

Why no fear? Because people are so afraid to raise voices and accepted that law cannot do anything to culprit so we better be careful with our daughters rather than teaching our sons how to behave.

It is a vicious circle.

What made me write this?Last summer,I had to visit Gurgaon for official training for 1.5 months. I being a girl from Mumbai, never afraid of traveling anywhere alone. But when I said I have to stay at Gurgaon for 1.5 months my family has taken aback. They asked me not to take up this job. After many convincing sessions my family agreed to let me go on one condition, which is- if my father will accompany me till the training center, he will stay there for 2-3 days to check if the area and people are okay. And he really did. I felt like a teenager but that’s how scary Delhi’s name is for the other parts of the nation or even to their own citizens.

While my stay, one Sunday I was out with my cousin brother for Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah. It was 6:45 pm and I was getting strange vibes from the place. While we were walking on the footpath, a man came walking towards us (he seemed to be drunk)and right next to my right foot, bent down, clapped as if he was trying to tease me, got up, and went back. All this happened in 5-8 seconds but it left me with a scream and my heart was pumping very fast.

My point is,this could happen in any city, but the threat of crime and misbehavior in Delhi is on top. And while it is happening, it is us, the Aam Aadmi who have accepted those threats and that’s why it is increasing. The threat of violence is not restricted to girls only; it includes males as well. They are also victims of different issues in day-to-day activity. We need to fight this threat, mentality, and law at the same time. P.S: I don’t hate Delhi, in fact, I loved Delhi infrastructure wise but timing restrictions and the threat of something bad will happen ka stigma is there 24*7 back of the mind.
