Last time when I was in Jaisalmer, I spent 3 days in Sam Dunes. It was definitely a more touristy area, but of course, had its comforts. Barna dunes were more secluded and it was an amazing feeling that you are the only one in the endless dunes. However, I would suggest this experience to only those people who are okay with a little discomfort. The night was cold, and the linen was full of sand, and of course the same linen is used by all who stay in the desert (so not clean). But I had to do it once, so I went ahead with it.
I guess if you plan ahead and plan better, you can get better and cleaner options.
