Moodbidri, a small town, around 35km north eastwards of Mangalore. The jain temple famous for 1000 pillars and intricate carving is one of the biggest jain temple in Asia. The eleven foot idol of Bhagwan Parsvanath Swamy and eight foot idol of Bhagwan Chandranath is unique, the beauty carved on the pillar is auspicious and moreover the Moodbidri’s reputation rests in the fact that it has treasure of the priceless statues cut in all the available precious stones. The 700 year old temple also known as Jain kashi in India with 18 roads connecting various villages, 18 lakes, 18 temples ,18 jain basadis(temples) have stunning marvellous architecture and sculptures with idols of tirthankaras made up of precious gems/ stone. The basadis of Moodbidri are a treasure house of stone inscriptions, architecture and poetry represented on the stones. The serene environment, the peaceful atmosphere, the divine encounter of body and soul at Moodbidri Jain Temple was not allowing us to leave towards our next destination.
