As you know monsoon is the best time for Trekking, it was monsoon and many people were Trekking around Pune, We were looking for an offbeat location to avoid the crowd and came up with the Kailasgad option. What's there in Kailasgad Fort ?? Kailasgad fort is located in Mulshi, near backwater of Mulshi Dam. There is hardly anything to see on the fort but the trail, the Mountains and the Waterfalls on the way make a dream come true day. How to Reach Kailasgad ? To reach Kailasgad Fort, the route is Pune - Chandani Chowk - Pirangut - Mulashi - take Right at Nive Bus Stop - Vaduste Village - park car at Mountain Pass (Khind) Seeing the above route I came up with a plan in which I can cover 4 beautiful Spots, which given below. 1) Palse Waterfalls (Beautiful but Crowded place, so reach very early) 2) Andharban view Point (Amazing place) 3) Kailasgad Fort 4) Nivhe Waterfalls (Less known Place) Pune - Kailasgad Fort (Total Distance: 150km): To avoid the Traffic we woke by 5AM and left Pune by 6AM. It was rainy season, it was all greenary around but it was not raining, The weather was perfectly set for trekking conditions. Dark clouds, and cool breezes made our journey more refreshing. We reached our First Destination Palse Waterfalls, there were harly any people around, we had our breakfast with sweet corn and tea, had some clicks at the Waterfall and left for Andharban view Point. Wheres the Andharban view Point ? Just take a first right turn from Nive Village and move on for around 6km, left side you will see beautiful mountains covered with fog, cool breez, Valley, Water streams coming down the mountain, yes that's the Andharban view Point. We reached here within an hour, again the place was crowd free, combination of Fog, Wind and Water streams made it more amazing, we had few clicks there and left for Kailasgad. To reach Kailasgad, move straight from Andharban view Point cross the Vadutse Village and go ahead till you see an electric DB on your left side, there you will see the small board of Kailasgad with some details. There we parked our car and started the beautiful Trek. Trek begins with a Small hike on Hill and the same Hill is connected to Kailasgad. The route is narrow with exposed to the valley on your left side. The route was bit slippery but manageable. It takes around 1 to 1.5 hour to reach the top of Fort. If you want to enjoy the beauty of the trail rather than Fortification then this is the perfect offbeat trekking place. The trail to Kailasgad Fort While climbing, you will come across a small monsoon waterfall (It is only inflowed during Rainfall). Just take right side direction rather than crossing water stream to continue to reach on the top. Route marks are not clearly visible which may mislead you. When you reach top You can see the Swaraj flag on the fort. View of Backwater and mountain range is simply breathtaking. Largest or Maximum view of Mulshi backwaters is possible only from Kailasgad The expert believes that fort was built during Saatvahan era and No fortification is available on the fort. You can see some ruined rock structure which looks like a ruined house. There is Shivlinga carved in Stone at the end of the fort. No signs of war found in history, but it's said the once Shivaji Maharaj had visited this Fort. We had our packed lunch under the shadow of Swaraj Flag, spent some time in exploring the beautiful mountain which had semicircular bushes all over it and Backwaters of Mulshi Dam made it more picturesque. We begin our returned journey and climb down in 30-40 Min. It is a short trek. After this we routed our journey to last location, i-e Nive Waterfalls, this Waterfalls is less known so you will harldly find anyone around. In the background you will see water stream coming from Mountain and that contributing to this Waterfall, the view is very picturesque and amazing. We enjoyed playing in this waterfall and left back to Pune. Kailasgad is less known, no crowd and just amazing, this is enough to make a life long memory.

If I had wings to fly, I would perhaps go nowhere! I write these words while sitting a mere 1300 feet over the plains, on one of the hilltops in Tamhini Ghatand there is nothing more I wish to see now for my eyes are fixated at the splendor view of the valley. I sit with my legs curled, in admiration of the beauty that lies in front of me. A gush of breeze from the Ghat and I am filled with an overwhelming feeling of reverence for such a picturesque view and though I may try to describe the panorama that has taken over my heart, words will never be enough to justify the sense of wonder that occupied me. My palms slowly move over the wet grass of the hilltop and as my eyes move from one end to another admiring the vast green valley. I can see a lake, surrounded by the trees, grasses and shrubs, too white and shiny that it almost looks like a huge mirror over which the sky is busy showing off its shades of blue while the clouds hide away from the reflection. (To me the lake resembled to my country’s map and I readily accepted the coincidence of it being the 15th of August) I can see the huts and houses, some scattered in the field and few clustered in the periphery of the white mirror and my mind wonders if the residents of those structure feel just as grateful being a part of this magnificent beauty as I feel staring at it. My thoughts remain mid-air as the sky slowly begins to turn grey and the clouds that had been running away from the lake have now taken over it and gradually a curtain of foggy clouds fall over the scenic view as the showers begin sounding just like a roar of applauses at the end of a soul-stirring drama. The rains cover every inch of me but I refuse to stand up. I think about the lake that I see no more imagining the ripples created by this drizzle. I think about trees and the grasses that lets the tiny droplets of water rest over them till the sun arrives to dry them up and then I think about the huts and the houses, the residents of which, I wish are dancing and playing in this wonderous setting. Once the rain denies to stop and the view in front of me is drowned completely, I trace back the wheels of my car for our return journey when I see the hills, covered in rains, as the clouds play with its peak, run up and down on its slope while the water cascades from the rocks, forming a pool near its end. The brakes apply itself and my legs begin to run towards the sight even in the most inappropriate footwear. There lies a trail that would lead me to midst of Ghat, to the nearest beginning of the waterfall but as I step inside the cold water and begin to climb on the hilly rocks, my eyes freeze and so does my feet. I am standing in the middle of what I will call a forest, with trees being my canopy, my ankles stagnant in water below and what lies in front of me is the magnificent Western Ghats with water slooshing from it. A sight I never knew I desired to see. I pause my breath and my heart reminds me of the lines I wrote a few minutes ago; If I had wings to fly, I would perhaps go nowhere!

Tamhini Ghat is around 50-60 km from Pune. This beauty lies between Mulshi and Tamhini in Maharashtra. The journey towards this place itself is mesmerizing. Surrounded with beautiful mountains, waterfalls and lakes, you are bound to stop at every possible spot to capture the scenic view. Best time to visit Tamhini Ghat is in monsoons during the month of August and September. Monsoons add more charm and greenery to this place. So we started our journey around 10 in the morning from Wakad,Pune. Weather was clear. It was a sunny day. Initially the roads were really good. The journey was smooth. But after some kms, the road were in a pretty bad conditions. The ride was rough. Because of such bad roads,it took more time to reach the destination. Our first actual spot was Tamhini Ghat waterfall. We parked the bike and went towards the waterfall. It was splendid. The water was very cold. People were really enjoying there. Some of the kids were looking so cheerful playing in the waterfall. It is a good place to visit with friends and family. We too got drenched in the waterfall. Had a great time there. There were restaurant alongside the waterfall. Also there were local people selling roasted corn(bhutta), Maggi, chai, bhajji, etc. We continued our journey towards the Tamhini ghat. The roads were alongside of ths Mulshi lake. It was indeed a beautiful journey. You could actually feel the freah air and feel so happy about this place. We had our lunch at Vittal kamath restaurant. As soon as we entered the restaurant,it started raining heavily. we sighed that we halted at correct time.We had pav-bhaji and missal pav there. It was delicious. As rain stopped, we continued. We reached at Tamhini ghat, but we didn't Know where to go next. We were just riding along when we saw a guy took a right turn towards the hilly road. So we also went through the same path. While going through the path, we saw some people walking (or trekking) towards the same path. The area was densely covered with trees on both sides. It looked like a forest. After riding for a while, we reached the spot. It was super amazing. We were so overwhelmed to see the place. It was surrounded by lush green mountains with small waterfalls on it. It was fabulous. I may not have enough words to describe this place, but it was so magical. (Check out the photos) captured the place from all angles. Sat there and gazed it. It was so peaceful and refreshing. It started raining a little, so we hid under the tree to save our camera and phones. After the rain stopped, we were just sitting there. Enjoying the nature. Didn't feel like leaving the place, but had to. While returning home, we stopped at some spots like the Mulshi lake(do check the photos). So after this breath-taking journey, reached home around 5pm. Tamhini Ghat had it's own charm. People who love nature, will definitely like this place. It was altogether a cheerful experience.

We didn’t stop anywhere as we wanted to reach Kashid ASAP. After almost three hours of drive, we found a structure something like a plant in the right. We crossed it and found a large waterbody and a jetty just beside it. It looked secluded. It seemed that the plant and the Jetty were not used in years. At first, we thought it to be a lake, but couldn’t understood how it could be so big. Soon we realized, it’s the Arabian sea. We were awestruck. Never in my life I have seen sea so close to the road. The tides are literary touching the road in some places. It was almost intimidating.

The main reason to select Kashid was Murud Janjira Fort. We saw photos of that fort and found it very interesting. Our plan was to visit Murud Janjira Fort & relax in the Kashid beach and those were the only things that didn’t happen in the trip. But it didn’t matter at the end. Perfect trip is not about perfect plan.
