SINHAGAD FORT, is a Favorite weekend gateway for all Mumbaikar's and Punekar's. If you are in Near by Pune or Mumbai, make sure you visit this place.
Previously known as Kondhana, the fort had been the site of many battles, most notably the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. Perched on an isolated cliff of the Bhuleswar range in the Sahyadri Mountains, the fort is situated on a hill about 760 metres above ground and 1,312 metres above mean sea level.
The Sinhagad (Lion's Fort) was strategically built to provide natural protection due to its very steep slopes. The walls and bastions were constructed only at key places. There are two gates to enter the fort, the Kalyan Darwaza and Pune Darwaza which are positioned at the south east and north-east ends respectively.[1] The fort was also strategically located at the centre of a string of other Maratha Empire forts such as Rajgad Fort, Purandar Fort and Torna Fort.
How to reach Sinhagad Fort
The best way to reach the fort is bike or car.
2nd Nov Saturday, Me and one of my friend sandy make a plan and we started ride from Panvel 6 pm and reach pune city around 9.30. Sandy's brother lived in pune that's why we decide to stay his home, and sunday morning wake up early and heads to destination.
Public Transport - Local buses are available every hour from Pune city to Atekar vasti. once you reach Atekar Vasti you can either walk to the Top or auto services are available from the base to the Top of the mountain.
When we went to for a Trek, we had park our bike parking, their is space available for bike or car parking.
