My Lovelies

My sister moved to Melbourne, Australia after getting married in 2005. I visited her 2 times in 2007 and 2011 but haven't been able to visit her since the time I started working. So when she told me that they are planning a trip to Malaysia in November 2013 I jumped at the opportunity and immediately started the ticket search. I booked about 3 months in advance and got really cheap tickets with Air Asia which operates daily from Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur. I was very busy in work for a couple of months before our trip and therefore had no time to research about the trip. My sister and Jeeju came to my rescue as they are perfect trip planners and had arranged for each and every thing well in advance.

The highlight of this trip for me was meeting my nephew Anam (2 years old) and my niece Anya (4 years old). I was so so so excited to see them after a year. We had lots of fun in the entire trip. The day trips, the time at the hotels, the time at the airports, the time at the malls, everything is deeply missed :(. We spent 4 days in KL and 3 days in Langkawi and also visited Legoland Malaysia and Genting Highlands fora day each. It was a memorable trip and I enjoyed a lot on this mid-way reunion with the Aussies.

My sister, her husband and their 2 kids had traveled from Melbourne to KL 2 days back and had done some sight seeing in and around KL. I joined them 2 days later. I reached KL late at night and my jeeju came to pick me up at the airport. We were staying at Aloft at KL Sentral and reached there at about 1 am and had a mini family reunion. The kids were already asleep. The next morning we were supposed to leave for the airport at around 6 in the morning. We were going to Johor Bahru for a one day trip to Legoland Malaysia. So we got only a couple of hours of sleep and got up very very early in the morning.

We took an 8 am flight to Johor Bahru. It was a very short flight and we reached at about 9 am. As soon as we left the airport we got a direct bus to Legoland. We reached there in an hour and it was so bloody hot. There is a food court just opposite to the amusement park and we decided to eat first and also bought some much-needed sunscreen and a huge umbrella to save us from the sun. We then spent a few hours in the amusement park. The kids had a blast there. We took many rides, saw a magic show, went to a mini Lego world where we found Lego Taj. It was a long and tiring day and the sun sure made it even more tiring. But nonetheless all of us enjoyed a lot. We had early dinner at the food court and proceeded towards the airport. Our flight was about 2 hours late so we reached KL and our hotel very late at night.

The next morning we had planned to wake up early to go for a swim with the kids in the terrace infinity pool at the 30th floor of our hotel. But we just couldn't wake up in time. We couldn't go for the swin but we did spend some time at the poolside. It offered some beautiful views of the KL skyline. Then we packed all our bags and checked out of Aloft as we were going to Langkawi for 3 days. It was a beautiful flight over the ocean as Langkawi is a set of 100 islands away from the mainland. The weather in Langkawi was cooler and much more humid than KL. We were staying at Rebak,an island resort run by the Taj group. We got an airport pick up which dropped us at Rebak Marina Jetti from where we took a 15 minute beautiful and bumpy speed boat ride to our island resort. The isalnd was very beautiful and the hotel was very well maintained. Our suite was huge and the staff was very courteous. We spent the first day exploring the resort and had a Malay dinner buffet at the restaurant. The next day we took the speed boat ride back to the main island and went para-sailing in the langkawi skies. My 4 year old niece Anya loved it and wanted to go again. The view from the top was too good to be true. We roamed at the main island for a few hours and went back to Rebak by evening. We spent the next full day at the resort as they had many in-house services. We cycled around the resort, played TT, went kayaking to a nearby island and spent some quality time at the pool and the private beach. It was my sister's wedding anniversary and the hotel staff had decorated the room and provided a cake. There were infinite options in the buffet and aditi didi n jeeju were very happy to find south indian dishes in the buffet as well. Having spent more than 4 years in bangalore I was in no way craving for south indian dishes and enjoyed malay or continental breakfast or dinner. The next morning we checked out after breakfast and headed back to KL after this wonderful stay.

We returned back to KL and checked into Best Western Premiere at Dua Sentral. The hotel room was actually a service apartment and was very spacious. In KL we did the regular sight seeing and used the well planned public transport network for commuting. We went to Petronas Twin Towers one afternoonand I loved the dancing fountains and the lights in the evening. We also spent a lot of time in shopping at Berjaya Times Square and Midvalley. It was a chilled and relaxed trip and I really had the best time with my niece (4 years old) and nephew (2 years old). I saw them after a year and it was nice to see them growing up so fast.

We also did a day trip from KL to Genting. We took a cab for going to the Gondola start point. The gondola ride was very long and scenic. At Genting we visited the indoor theme park and the kids enjoyed many rides. We came back by bus and reached our hotel at night.

On our last day we went to the KL butterfly park for half a day. It was very well maintained and there were lots of colourful butterflies all around. My nice and nephew were busy running after the butterflies and my sister was busy with her photography. Its a nice place and they have a museum also at the exit of the park. We spent rest of the day in shopping and we spent the evening at our hotel packing our bags. On the next day, we were all going to the airport in the morning. My sister and her family were flying back to Melbourne, Australia and I was flying back to Bangalore, India. It was very hard to say goodbye after this wonderful vacation. I was lucky to spend some amazing quality time with Anya and Anam.
