The history of the Ganga Aarti dates back to the 19th Century when Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya started the ritual. It is continued till date and happens twice daily. Each evening at sunset priests perform Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri when lights are set on the water to drift downstream. The bells of the temples at the ghat start ringing at the same time making the atmosphere enchanting.
