Uttarakhand is blessed with countless beautiful locations in close proximity to Delhi. Naukuchiatal is a sleepy lake town, named so owing to the nine corners of the lake here. Legend has it that if one manages to get a glimpse of all these nine corners at a single go, then one is given the gift of Nirvana. The lake is 175 feet deep and is a great place to go boating. This place is around 299 kilometres away from the city and will take one about five and a half hours to reach. Once there, do not hold back. Go on one the treks that this place has to offer or simple take the route to relaxation. You deserve this visit so do not hesitate. Take your family along so that all of you can get the time to bond together in the lap of nature.Delhi to Naukuchiatal Distance : 299 KMRead More About Naukuchiatal Uttarakhand Tourism Guide ...

A hamlet of small villages and nine lakes, Naukuchiatal is a gem hidden in the outskirts of Nainital. It was just like yesterday, when I took a 2 days off to reach Nainital... But this time, Nainital wasn't my choice to spend the two days...I took a shared cab to Bhowali and another to Bhimtal where I rested at #Basera guest house. The guest house is not there any more... The owner of the guest house took me with him for a trip to Naukuchiatal and Sattal... The lone walk between the woods and the mesmerizing climate and environment rejuvenates you and gives you the power to walk and work even more...In the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, there are 7 lakes that are known to the people there. The 7 lakes are Nainital, Bhimtal, Khurpatal, Naukuchiatal, Malwatal, Harishtal and Lokhamtal... These 7 fresh water lakes combine to be called as the 7 lake sisters of the Kumaon region. It is true that Nainital is known to be the tourist capital of Uttarakhand. With the most number of tourists visiting there every year. But this is again a fact that the other lake sisters have kind of lost there identity. Most of the tourists visit Nainital and they don't even know about the other lakes. And because of the absence of crowd at these other lakes... These places are exceptionally serene, calm and as I said... Rejuvenating...

Naukuchiyatal is again a lake place. It has a famous temple. You can just go have some cold coffee at the lake side cafes and rest for sometime. You can move from there in an hour for Bhimtal. Try taking the same cab to hotel as getting other cabs at that time might get difficult. You can also try going to Nainital the next day but there is nothing so special as its always very crowded. Though a visit will not harm.

We had booked a taxi the previous day for INR 1000 (which included a tour of all the Taals). Quite a bargain since everyone had warned us how expensive Nainital is. Our driver was at the hotel precisely at 9 am and was an old fellow who enjoyed talking and playing guide. Wasn't a problem this time since I was in the mood to know everything about this lovely town. We set off towards Naukuchiatal where husband and I were going to try our hand at paragliding and unknown to us then, at Kayaking. The views on the way to Naukuchiatal reaffirm what you are missing out in the city. Every curve brings with an unpredictable sight and every meadow makes way for another. As we neared Naukuchiatal, we noticed scores of paragliding companies making a beeline for potential fliers. As we had already fixed a trip, we made our way to the peak, paid and waited patiently for my tryst with whatever adventure I could find here. The paragliding ride in fact was quite a hit and since this was my first time, I wasn't in the least bit disappointed. The winds favoured my excitement and we were in air for much longer than expected.

It is 26 kilometres from Nainital which is at an altitude of 1,220 m (4,000 ft). This lake is built with nine corners hence it is known as the Naukuchia lake. The lake is full of lotus and is surrounded by forest with a backdrop of the mountains and all this creates an ideal condition to sit on the banks and feel the breeze coming from the lake. It is the deepest of the lakes in the greater Naintal area. According to legend, it is said that if one takes in all nine corners in one glimpse, one can disappear in a cloud of smoke. After that, we made our way to visit other lakes and then at 1645 hours, we halted at Hanuman Mandir which is also known as ‘Hanuman Garhi’.

Naukuchiatal Lake is about 130 ft. deep and is a nine cornered lake. We ordered two cup of tea and a spicy Maggie before going to boat. The lake is quite serene and so are its surrounding hills which are covered by forested green on all sides. It is believed that who so ever sees all the nine corners of the lake in one shot will attain Nirvana. This place is also apt for adventure lovers, as activities like trekking, paragliding and angling are done here. It is the deepest of all the lakes in the Nainital region. The lake is fed by an underground perennial spring. Naukuchital was the last lake in our lake tour. Then we headed back to Nainital enjoying the cool breeze of late evening, the whole day was simply amazing. Rejuvenating and de-stressing will be the perfect words to define this day.

The word means it is a lake of nine corners! One can go boating or sit by the side and enjoy the serene beauty of the place.

Next day, our first spot was the NAUKUCHIA TAAL HANUMAN TEMPLE. The town has dedicated a huge temple to Lord Hauman. This statue stands 60 feet tall and is beautifully painted with bright colours.
