Notes On Strawberry Picking
1. Strawberries will not continue to ripen once they are picked. Therefore, make sure you pick up the ripe red berries.
2. Pick at the stem
The index finger and thumb are ideally used to clip the berry off the stem. It is desirable to leave the green hull on the berry as it helps keep the juice inside the berry.
3. Store properly
Protect them from sunlight when in the field and in the car. Strawberries can be best consumed within 2-3 days after picking.
4. Freezing Strawberries
It is a good option to freeze the strawberries in case you wish to store them longer. Frozen berries work well in smoothies, ice cream toppings, and delicious homemade strawberry shortcake.
