ABOUT LADAKH
Also known as "The Land of High Passes", Ladakh is one of the most captivating places to visit in the Himalayan region. GETTING THERE
Air: Reach the Kushok Bakula Airport which is closest to Ladakh. You can go for a heird vehicle afterwards.
Road: You can opt for a self drive vehicle to reach Ladakh from Manali Highway. The distance between Ladakh and Manali is over 433 Kms which would take eleven and a half hours approximately.
Alternatively, you can also get there through Srinagar Highway.
Best time to visit Ladakh
The best time to visit Ladakh is between the months of June to October when the Weather is very pleasant. Beyond this time, the temperature drops to negatives.
What not to miss
Pangong Lake
Treat yourself to some more magnificent vistas by vising the Pangong Lake. It is about 6 hours from Ladakh to reach Pangong Tso. Located at an altitude of 4350 m, it is one of the most pristine lakes situated in the lap of Himalayas. The intriguing part is that 60% of this lake lies in China which attracts a huge amount of tourists every year.
KHARDUNG LA PASS
This pass is one of the most illustrious passes in Ladakh and is a must visit tourist stop on your road trip. Ladakh is a lovely place and the Khardung-La pass embodies it in a very magnificent manner. There are a dozen of things to do in and around this pass. Driving through here is a memorable experience. But, because of the conditions of the road, driving here is a bit tricky. It is advisable to hire an experienced local driver.
NUBRA VALLEY
After you cross the world’s highest motorable pass, you’ll reach the Nubra Valley, which is certainly the most offbeat beat places on your visit to Ladakh. Situated at a staggering altitude of 3048m, this valley remains secluded from the rest of the region. It is approximately a four hour drive from Ladakh to Nubra Valley. This is your perfect escape from the city hustle.
DISKIT MONASTERY
Diskit, a dazzaling village is approximately 120 kms from Ladakh. In case you’re planning to cross the Kardung La Pass, you’ll have to stay here at night.
Diskit Monastery is the one of major attractions of the region. Located at a pictersque hilltop of about 10,300ft, Diskit Monastery is the oldest monastery in the Nubra Valley. One of the reasons for this place being the tourist magnet, is the 106ft tall Maitreya Buddha statue.
THINGS TO DO
TREKKING
Ladakh has some world-famous trekking trails. You may opt for walking on the frozen Zanskar River by going for the glorious Chadar trek. However, the path to Chadar trek is very challenging but the ones who make it through, the experience is rewarding. If you’re looking out for some lesser challenging treks, you might want to go for Markha Valley trek or Lamaryu to Chilling Trek.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
