Situated around 20 odd kms from New Jalpaiguri railway station is this wetland, gajoldoba. Nestled in the foothills of Himalayas is this exotic and lesser explored place. The place is in every birdirs list to visit, and if you have not, then take a pen and mark it down for your next destination. I hope you will thank me later on. We arrived early morning around 6 am from Kolkata, and a cab was waiting for us in NJP station. It took around 30 mins to reach the destination Gajoldoba. We quickly moved to our hotel and kept our bags, freshened up and took our gears and lest for the river bank. Our boat was waiting and we started our day long journey in the river.
The first day was quiet eventful and by evening we came back to our hotel. The day ended with lot of species. There are not many good staying options though. We went early to bed to wake early for the next morning.
Early morning was usually foggy, with a sighting of Redstart sitting at our boat. We started around 7 am in the morning and as the day went the fog too got cleared. Sadly the same species was found and our target species were no where to be found. By afternoon, we came back to the bank as we had a train to catch by evening.
We felt as if we could stay a bit longer and with a sad heart, we promised ourselves to come back again. There were some beautiful memories that we took back.
