I have spent years sitting down on my desk planning trips, making excel sheets, keeping track of places I would like to go someday, reading travel news and taking notes of nice hotels and places I would like to visit. Today, when I go through my old computer files I find some random excel sheet I created years ago which got 5 best adventurous hotels in the different countries, some contact address of tour organizers etc. It makes me smile and I realize it was always inside me even when I knew I may never get the chance to do all those things I was wasting my time on. Somewhere deep down this is what I always wanted to do, I just didn’t know that.
I know there are thousands like me out there who can relate to what I am trying to say here. I won’t say I hadn’t had the opportunity; I was actually scared of travelling alone. I was scared of the thought of me sitting in a bar all alone, roaming around and not being able to talk to anyone, feeling insecure and scared about the fact that one bad trip can affect my opinion about only one thing I ever cared about. Until few months back I never met someone who was as crazy as me to pick the bag and leave on the seconds notice. All these years while looking for a travel buddy I realized I wasted some precious time.
So what changed? What made it all happen? How was I able to break that wall to enter in my dream land?
Sometimes to take a mature decision you need a heart of a child. That’s what I did, out of all the odds I decided to give it a try and not to mention Couchsurfing(CS) was a big boost to my decision. Initially, I started hosting people from CS and the people I hosted were mostly travelling alone so we used to talk. I asked them about my fears, my roadblocks and all of them said the same thing. You only get this life once you will never know what you are capable of if you don’t try. No one is going to come and take you on a trip with them you got to take the initiative and people will join. Thousands of people are waiting for someone to take first step all they need is someone to lead. You take your trip meet people through CS keep in contact with them and plan something with them next time and this chain goes on. You may be alone when you take flight from your city, but the moment you step out of the airport world of wanderers are waiting for you to welcome.
