Move over Maldives! Lakshadweep and Andaman Islands are all set to redefine luxury with the introduction of water villas. Indian Government’s policy think tank Niti Aayog has teamed up with UT administration to develop water villas across popular island destinations in India.
The backstory
A recent pre-application conference held at Kochi saw discussions for boosting ecotourism in India. Apart from the water villas, bids have already been invited for six more ecotourism projects that are under development, based on public-private partnership model.
There's more than just villas!
The estimated budget for the project is Rs 1,50,000 crore for both land and water villas. Reports suggest that the new infrastructure would include airports, sea places, floating jetties, and even helicopter services. This will help shape the new water and land villas into a complete tourist destination.
Location
Niti Aayog has proposed that the water villas in Lakshadweep are to have 125 rooms. They will be constructed on Minicoy, Suheli, and Kadmat Islands. On the other hand, Andaman and Nicobar islands will have 460 rooms for land villas in the Aves Island, Smith Island, Long Island, and Shaheed Islands.
The luxurious water villas in Maldives have been attracting Indian tourists for long. With the new project in the pipeline, India could very well become an inviting spot for domestic as well as international tourists. Talk about making waves in style!
