The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has set a November 24 2015 deadline for globally phasing out all Non-machine Readable Passports (MRPs). Thereafter, other countries may deny visa or entry to any person travelling on a non-machine readable passport.

What you need to keep in mind: The government of India has been issuing these (MRP's) since 2001.
If your passport is a non - MRP issued before 2001, with a validity of 20 years only, then you need to get it re-issued.

Indian citizens residing in India and abroad and holding such passports with validity beyond November 24, 2015 should apply for the reissue of their passports well before deadline.

Deadline: 24th November 2015

Is it ok to share personal information online or do you have a copyright on the passports you have shown? Do these passports belong to your family members and you have taken this picture of the internet? I don't think you are allowed to put up pictures of anything without consent. Your article about Indian passport useless if not renewed is done in poor taste.

It's a very informative article and useful to all who posses the old passports. For me and wife this will be a hassle as our passports are 18 years old and we still had two years of peace left before going through the whole chaos of getting it renewed. I guess there is no escaping it now, I will have to get both our Indian passports useless if not revised before 24th November

I think I have missed the deadline you mentioned, is there any other way I can get my passport revised? I'm ready to pay an extra penalty to the government but can the date be extended? I stay in England and my tickets back to India couldn't get done on time. Do advise, desperately waiting for a reply. Don't want to get my Indian passport useless if not changed.

Hi, thanks so much for the information. You article comes at the best time. I have possessed the manually written passport for the past 10 years and have travelled to so many countries with the same. But now I guess my old Indian passport useless if I don't get it changed before the given deadline.

My parents have been living with my brother in London for the past 5 years. They all have old passports. Since I'm their only contact living in India, is there any way I get their passports revised? Their Indian passport useless if not changed before 24th November. Kindly advise as soon as possible.
