Oh yes... I have always been fascinated with treks in Himachal Pradesh. I had done most of the well known ones. And Uttarakhand was nothing more than Nainital, Mussorrie for me.
But since I kept exploring and wanted to try something different one, I checked out treks in Uttarakhand. And this one called trek to "Naag Tibba" cropped up in front of me. One of my close friend had also praises for this one.
So starting the overnight bus journey from Delhi to Dehradun, early morning at around 5 AM, the bus reached Dehradun. One can get semi sleepers as well as sleeper buses to Dehradun. They range from 600/- to 2,000/- depending on your comfort, budget and choice of adventure.
One can either choose various packages. They charge decently, or can take their own car and drive to the base of the trek. Otherwise local transports are cheaper but requires constant change of mode of transport. The base of the trek is Pantwari village of Gharwal region.
One can go to Mussoorie and take a bus/ cab also to reach Pantwari.
after reaching the village, there are small shops, dhabas to freshen up and eat. if you have excess luggage, you can also drop it at one of the dhabas. they are quite sweet and reliable.
There is defined trail to start the trek. You can choose this trek even for solo travel. I chose it a winter trek to experience snow. Even first time trekkers can choose to do this trek.
The trail is dry but beautiful in winter.
The base camps are set up with tents and camping provisons for you to spend the night, recover and get the energy back for next days summit.
And it snowed at night....., while it rained at lower heights. next morning the trek to summit started at 6:00 AM.
while admiring the beauty, catching the breath, relaxing muscles and sipping water, I chose not to stop.
Reaching the top, the view and feel from there is just beyond the words in English dictionary.
After reaching the top, the trek down after spending time during afternoon, reaching pantwari the same day by evening and then taking bus from there to Dehradun, was our journey back. Further stopping for dinner at Dehradun and reaching Delhi the next morning, And this is why, this trek is one day trek. Quite tiring, but worth it.
