How To Get To Paris
Getting to Paris is relatively easy, thanks to its excellent transportation connections. Here are some common ways to reach the city:
By Air: Paris has two major international airports: Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Orly Airport (ORY). These airports serve numerous international and domestic flights. You can book a flight to either of these airports, depending on your location and airline availability.
By Train: Paris is well-connected to major European cities by high-speed train services, such as the Eurostar from London, Thalys from Brussels, and TGV from various French and European cities. The main train stations in Paris are Gare du Nord, Gare de Lyon, and Gare de l'Est.
How To Get Around Paris
Getting around Paris is convenient and efficient, thanks to its well-developed public transportation system. Inside tip - I always prefer buying the travel cards for the number of days I plan to stay in any city. For my trip next week, I have purchased a 3 day travel pass. This pass gives me access to the following:
Metro: The Paris Metro is a fast and extensive underground subway system that covers the entire city and its outskirts. With 16 lines and over 300 stations, it's an excellent way to move around Paris quickly. Metro tickets can be purchased at the stations, and various ticket options are available, including single-use tickets and multi-day passes.
Bus: Paris has an extensive bus network that complements the metro system. Buses cover areas not served by the metro and offer a scenic way to explore the city. Bus stops are marked with numbers and route information. You can purchase bus tickets from the driver or use the same tickets as for the metro.
RER (Regional Express Network): The RER is a suburban train network that connects Paris with its surrounding areas. It can be useful for reaching attractions outside the city center, such as Versailles or Disneyland Paris. RER trains operate on different lines (A, B, C, D, E) and are integrated with the metro system.
Tram: Paris also has a modern tramway network, which operates in certain areas of the city. Trams provide a convenient way to reach neighborhoods not well-served by the metro or bus.
The pass also gives me 1 day hop-on-hop-off bus ride, discounts on segways and motorbikes and an all-inclusive River Seine cruise.
Paris City Passes
This is another investment I tell all my followers to make. BUY THAT CITY PASS! You'll end up saving and seeing a lot more attractions.
For an incredible three-day adventure in Paris, I highly recommend getting your hands on the Paris Pass. This fantastic pass grants you access to over 75 attractions, ensuring you don't miss out on any of the city's must-see sights. Plus, it's super convenient! You can easily download it to your phone or print it out and carry it along.
Now, if you're a museum enthusiast, the Paris Museum Pass is an excellent option. With access to 50 stunning monuments and museums, you'll be immersed in a world of art and history like never before.
Here's a tip: If there's a special exhibition you're itching to see, make sure to pre-book your ticket. Parisians flock to exhibitions, so planning in advance is crucial if you want to secure a spot. Trust me, you won't want to miss out on these extraordinary experiences!
Where to stay in Paris
Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements, each with its own unique charm and character. The best arrondissement for you to stay in depends on your preferences and the type of experience you're seeking. Here are some popular choices:
1st arrondissement (Louvre and Palais Royal): Staying in the heart of the city near the Louvre Museum and Palais Royal provides easy access to major attractions and a vibrant atmosphere. You'll be within walking distance of iconic landmarks and surrounded by luxury shops and fine dining options.
Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement): This lively neighborhood is home to the historic Sorbonne University and offers a vibrant atmosphere with a mix of students, bohemian vibes, and affordable dining options. It's close to attractions like Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Luxembourg Gardens.
Saint-Germain-des-Prés (6th arrondissement): Located on the Left Bank of the Seine, this area has a sophisticated and intellectual ambiance. It's famous for its iconic cafes, like Café de Flore, and is surrounded by art galleries and antique shops.
Le Marais (4th arrondissement): This historic neighborhood offers a vibrant atmosphere with trendy boutiques, art galleries, and a bustling nightlife. It's known for its charming streets, historic buildings, and excellent dining options.
Tip: I prefer staying slightly outside the city as the hotel rates in central district can be overwhelming. I also make sure I always pick a stay close to a metro line. Bonus points for a direct metro line to the central station.
