Did you know that India has its very own fossil village?

Yes! You heard it right. There is a place famous as the fossil village of India. This hidden treasure is in Langza which lies in Spiti Valley. But what's the story behind this title?

This place was once submerged under the ancient Tethys Ocean that existed between 250 million years to 50 million years ago. But then, the tectonic plates collided, and the ocean vanished, giving birth to the majestic Himalayas we know today.

Because of the incredible geological transformation, several spiral-shaped fossils are found here from the late Jurassic era. These fossils are the remains of ancient marine life that once inhabited the Tethys Ocean. And guess what? Langza is full of these awe-inspiring fossils!

But, the sale of these fossils is prohibited 🚫. Because disturbing the ecology and destroying these geological artefacts would be a grave loss. But despite that, some locals continue to sell them to tourists.

Imagine that! These fossils are older than the mighty Himalayas themselves. So, if you're a curious explorer, Langza's Fossil Village must be on your bucket list! ✅
