Arguably, Switzerland is one destination we all want to visit at some point in our lives. While some of them have had the luxury to visit, most of us face budget issues as Switzerland is one of the expensive countries for tourists. What if I tell you that we have one mini Switzerland here in India itself? Surprised? Yes, we do. This hamlet called Khajiar near Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh has the beauty and charm similar to Swiss. Those snow covered peaks, landscapes, meadows and tall pine trees with lake is an exact replica of Switzerland.
We had planned our trip from Mumbai. We went to Amritsar first and then from amritsar we hired a private cab towards Dharamsala. From Dharamsala, we went to dalhousie and from Dalhousie we went to Khajiar. Khajiar is an hour drive; approx 21 Kms from Dalhousie
We had visited Khajiar in the month of September in 2017.
It was pleasant weather at that time and no snowfall. But if you travel during winters i.e Oct-Mar you will be able to enjoy snowfall and view the beautiful snow clad Himalayan peaks. Khajiar also offers some adventure activities like horse riding, paragliding and zorbing. You can indulge in some local snacks as there are small vendors selling hot steamed sweet corn, fruits like guava and apples, chatpata black gram and bhel. There's one small cafe located in Khajiar which serves tea coffee, hot Maggie and omelette. Though it's a small village and infrastructure is not as developed as Switzerland but definitely it's not a bad option if you can't afford that Swiss trip as of now.
