5 Quick Weekend getaways from Bangalore

Tripoto

1. Coorg – Located at a distance of around 240 kms from Bangalore, coorg is a popular choice . It’s also called scotland of India because of the infinite greenery and pleasant weather. It’s perfect for adventure seekers as it offers trekking, river rafting, rappeling, quad biking and many more. Equally appealing for a romantic getaway amidst the nature or if you just wish to unwind after a busy week at office. Easily accessible by buses, cars and bikes. It’s a true haven and a must visit for your next weekend destination.

2. Pondicherry – French Town of India is just an overnight journey away from Bangalore. It’s 311 kms away and another popular destination among bikers. The Chennai to Pondicherry “ECR” road is a bliss . It provides you with the best views throughout the journey. Go scuba diving, take a walk on the promenade or simply soak in the sun at paradise beach. You can’t go wrong with this place. While you do this don’t miss the french cuisine and also my personal favorite Auro Pizza (https://www.zomato.com/puducherry/auro-pizza-white-town) . Stay in auroville for a spiritual experience.

3. Ooty – This was one of the first places I visited after coming to Bangalore. I didn’t enjoy the place much as I found it too commercialized. Alas ! I judged too soon. I just didn’t go to the right places and a second visit cleared my doubts. Make sure you go to Avalanche Lake, Emerald Lake, Ooty pine forest and don’t miss a ride on toy train from ooty to coonor. While coming back make sure to get your bags filled of chocolates from King star. They are located at the commercial road and have been in business since 1942. And I vouch for their chocolates.

4. Mysore – I have lost count of how many times I have been here. Mysore palace is a marvel but make sure you don’t go there in summers. It’s very hot. It looks mesmerizing all lit up in the evening. Another place that I like in mysore is Ranganathittu bird sanctuary . It’s perfect for bird watching and watching crocodiles laze around. Believe me, you’ll skip a beat when your boat nears one of those huge crocs. Give sand museum a miss. It’s not worth your time. I am not a fan of Brindavan gardens either. So, instead of that have some Mysore Pak and dig into piping hot idlis .

5. Gokarna – There is no way I can leave gokarna behind. It tops my list for a weekend getaway. 11 hours away from bangalore it’s a laidback beach town . My first visit , I was floored. It had perfect beaches, amazing food and the right kind of vibes. You don’t have to do a lot when in Gokarna. And that’s the best part . You choose your beach and you relax. All the beaches are accessible on foot via an easy trek. You can even spot dolphins on a boat ride to paradise. It’s just the place you would want to be with your family or friends.
