Havelock Island.
Took a cruise ship for Havelock Island from Port Blair. After 2 hrs reached a beautiful jungle like island, full of greenery. Small mountains, coconut trees, insects chirping loudly, all of these making the atmosphere wonderful. We have booked for a 2 day leisure time @ Barefoot Resort A/C Nicobari Cottage. A beautiful natural Resort. It's near the world famous Radhanagar beach(7th out of top 100 beaches in the world ). The beach was right there 200 meters. Awesome! First time in life saw white sand beach. That's what why, we planned to spend the tour here.
At night it was pitch black dark, and we can see the sky filled with stars much much clearer. Walking down the beach, only two of us! The locals said, there is complete safety, no theft or any kind of bad things happen there. But, carried small tourches given by the resort because it was really scary for us who live in the metros and accustomed to the bright lights. Never had such an experience.
Second day in Havelock Island. Had a great complimentary breakfast. Beautiful food.
Went to the private beach of the resort for sea bathing. Scotching heat, the jungle behind and beautiful clean blue-green sea water looked wonderful. Later, rented an Activa from the local tour guys @ 500 for 24 hrs and went around the island.
In the morning, had buffet breakfast. Bathed at the beach.
Couldn't go for the pre- planned scuba diving @ Elephanta beach as it was closed due to some problems. So, went around the island and saw some villages and saw how the locals live. Came to know that everything found in the island has been imported from outside, i.e. from India. The only thing they have there is a certain kind of tree, from which the wood are used to built houses.
In the evening we took the cruise ship for return to Port Blair. Went to Cellular Jail for the light and sound show. Nice one, came to know about the torchurs that the prisoners faced in the jail. Really emotional. Went for a candle light dinner at the Hotel Shompen where we have done the bookings.
Last day at Port Blair. Nothing much. After packing the breakfast went straight to the airport to board the flight for Kolkata.
Had a wonderful leisure time in the beautiful islands of Andaman. Hope to come again in future and explore more.
The government is very soon going to start railway service for a 350 km route along the coastal areas.
Reached Port Blair from Kolkata and, checked into Hotel Shompen. Went for site seeing by hiring an Activa scooter from the famous Ghanta Ghar area for 500 rupees. Went to Kala Pathar beach. The ride was really breath taking as the road was just beside the coast area. On the way we saw few small parks and also spotted and visited Ramkrishna Math. Rest of the day went just chilling out near Ghanta Ghar areas. Had lunch and dinner at the famous Annapurna Restaurant.
