Drove from Delhi to Chandigarh on 24th December on a business trip. Getting out of Delhi in the day around 11am was an ordeal. It took us a good 2 hours to cover a 10 km strech near Ashram chowk towards Kashmere gate and beyond to the Delhi border.
But after Panipat the drive was a sail. One flyover to the other, you don't realise when you drive past karnal, kurukshetra and ambala, and touch Zirakpur, on the outskirts of Chandigarh.
Zirakpur today is a treat to the eyes.....huge skyscrapers, multiple residing blocks, huge malls and uncountable hotels, motels and the likes of oyo rooms. Such a huge inventory of hotel options that you are spoilt for choice.
Well, as I said, ours was a Bleisure trip.... business and leisure pulled off together. A work trip in which we managed to explore the culture, food and general vibe of the city by adding a couple of days to our itenary.
Following are the recommendations of a Chandigarh resident friend....and we swear by his selection.
1. Brooklyn Central. Elante Mall - Euro
2. Ovenfresh Sector 7 Chd - Bakes & Cafe
3. Amritsari Kulcha Sec 9 Panchkula - next to vijay dairy
4. Great Bear - Brewery Sector 7 Chd
5. Swagath - Sector 7 Chd
6. Fab Cafe - Sector 17 Chd
7. Delux dhaba - Sector 28 Chd
So, we tried most of these places, though not all. Each a memorable experience.
To this i would like to add our lunch at Ramgarh fort, Dastarkhan restaurant at this Heritage property. Warm hospitality by the attentive staff, delicious food and heritage ambience. It's a small property, but the decor, architecture and ambience is worth a visit.
So folks, enjoy your trip to this magnificent city of Chandigarh . Check out the numerous places that you can go to for short overnight trips from here and have a safe and fun trip.
Will soon update you about a cold press oil mill that we came across near Panipat on our drive back to Delhi.
