Post COVID-19, everyone has been working from home and missing out on their social life, the office outings and the occasional work trips. While some may have replaced 'Work From Home' with 'Work from Hills' and blended travel with work, the latest trend to surprise travellers is set by three friends who cycled over 1,600 kms without missing a single day of work!

Yes, giving rise to a unique way to fulfil their travel goals, and corporate responsibilities at the same time, they have introduced to the world:

Work From Cycle!

The three friends Bakcen George, Allwyn Joseph and Ratish Bhalerao decided to give a whole new meaning to Work-From-Home with their month-long cycling trip in the midst of the pandemic. The trio peddled from Mumbai to Kanyakumari covering a distance of 1,687 kilometres while continuing to work.

For office work, the three professionals logged in from highway dhabas and lodges. They were working from home rigorously and had a minimal social life during the pandemic, so instead of being caught up in negative thoughts in such tiring times, they decided to make ‘Working from Cycle’ a reality. Although it had its share of challenges, the trio says ‘it was worth it’.

What was it like?

They were not able to explore each and every tourist spot of the destinations along the route, but the trio told the media that the bicycle trip was worth experiencing, and they had gone through the most beautiful roads and enriching destinations during their month-long trip.

They cycled through picturesque routes in Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Belgaum, Hubali, Davanagere, Bengaluru, Salem, Madhuri and Tirunelveli.

The approximate expenses was around Rs 25,000 including food and rentals.

As their only goal was to reach a destination and they would start riding from 4am in the early morning and would reach to a commonly agreed destination mostly before 11 am. As the media reports, the trio almost clocked 80 kms of bicycle on daily basis and longer rides with more fun and destination covered over weekends. Adding that it was a little taxing in the initial couple of days, they soon managed to familiarize themselves with the routine.

About the trip

They explored a wide variety of regions. From the grassy lands filled with the pits to the stargazing nights on the fields, from the smallest dhaba to the costliest restaurants on the way, and from resting in the open fields to the hotels explored, their journey was epic. Dusty, sweaty, at pace, balancing travel and work, but the best.

Not so easy!

Apart from a few hotels denying stay due to Covid restrictions, they did not face any other major problem due to the pandemic. In fact, they said that the pandemic presented an opportunity for them to chase this long-cherished goal while not compromising on office work.

The trio mentions "Our managers supported us, while telling us to make sure work doesn’t get hampered. We respected that. Our co-workers were overjoyed and excited for us. When we completed our cycling trip, they were really happy and proud,” they told the media.

Well, certainly they've set a precedent for all of us working from home at the moment. Their journey leaves an inspiring message that reaching the destination is not the only thing that matters but the smooth and the rough times and the learning that comes along the way, is what matters.
