For all the adrenaline junkies and experience seekers, who have wanted to feel like birds and soar in the sky, Bir Billing in Himachal is probably the best-known destination to head to. Albeit getting there is a little too long, a twelve-hour road trip from New Delhi. This travel dissuades a lot of fence sitters from experiencing the thrill of flying like a bird.

What if your dreams of flying over a beautiful hilly landscape could come true closer to home? Yes, it's happening!

A team of professional gliders from Dehradun’s BSF Adventure School, recently visited Morni Hills and conducted the few test flights for the very first time. These flights were done to check the feasibility of this adventure sport from Morni. Overseeing the trials, was the Shivalik Development Board, in charge of the growth of the entire lower Himalayan region.

Currently, paragliding in India is done in Himachal Pradesh (Bir-Billing and Manali), and at a few places in Uttarakhand (Nainital, Pithoragarh, Ranikhet), other than a sprinkling of places in Maharashtra, Karnataka (Nandi Hills), Kerela (Vagamon), and Shillong and Sikkim in the North East. Goa has beach paragliding during the season months.

As per reports, the team commenced their gliding from Bhori village (4,000 ft above sea level) and landed in Palasara villages in the Haryana plains. Morni hills are the only hilly area in Haryana and hence paragliding activities can also boost tourism prospects in the region.

And this becomes an additional attraction from people visiting Chandigarh, the most planned city in India. And while you’re in Chandigarh, you could plan a day trip to Kasauli, should you not want to go up to Shimla.

Also, just three hours from Morni, in Himachal Pradesh, is the lake and temple of Renukaji, believed to be linked to Lord Parashuram, which is a good day trip option as well.
