A trip to Rajasthan is incomplete without exploring the traditional Rajasthani food. Jodhpur offers a variety of food options at highly affordable rates. In my recent trip to Rajasthan, I explored famous food joints in Jodhpur and Jaipur and I loved the experience. To read about the places I visited, click here. Fortunately, I have some friends who are from Rajasthan and based on their recommendations, I had a list of places to be visited.
The same friends have suggested to write an informative blog about my experience.
Jodhpur
Food Explored
1.Junta Sweets Home
This one is an old eating joint which is famous for its Pyaaj Kachori and Mirchi Bada. Many people recommend this place. I’m from Indore so I already had a benchmark for both of these items. For me, it did not live upto the hype. You can also try the different types of Namkeen they offer.
2.Chaturbhuj Rameshchandra Gulab Jamun:
Gulab Jamun is my all time favourite sweet. When my friend said this is the best place for Gulab Jamun he is aware about, my immediate dialogue was “You need to visit more places then”. But, when I finally went and tried this delight, I was in awe. They make it with pure Khoya (Mawa) and it’s a must try if you are in Jodhpur. The shop is located in Sardar Pura and you will see three shops with similar name. The one in left in the picture below is the real and the oldest one.
3.Pokar Dhabha
This place is an old little shop which you might feel doubtful to eat food at.But don't judge it so early. It offers a variety of authentic traditional food items. We tried Kabuli, Shahi Chakka sabji, and Mirchi kutta. Kabuli is a rice dish. Rice is cooked along with vegetables, dry fruits and mild spices. It looks cliché in the picture below, did to me too, but wait till you try it. Thank me later!
Shahi Chakka is another such appealing delight. Mirchi Kutta is a achar kinda thing which is worth a try. We find food pretty cheap almost everywhere in Jodhpur.
4.Bhawani Daal Baati
One can find Daal baati at almost every food place in Jodhpur. Bhawani Daal baati offers delicious daal baati, costed us ₹ 140 for two. Also, try Marwaadi kulfi there.
5. Rajasthani Thali at Gypsy:
You must have seen food bloggers with big thalis with many food items. Well Gypsy Dining Hall, offers Rajasthani Thali @ ₹429 for adults and ₹225 for kids. It has a variety of traditional dishes of Rajasthan prepared in pure Desi Ghee. I’m not a fan of such luxuries, also couldn’t finish even the first offering but my foodie friend gave it a rating of 3.5/5.

6.Bhati Tea Stall:
This is another famous place recommended by many of my friends. It’s a little shop not very away from Railway Station, so you can start your Jodhpur exploration with this as well. A glass cost approx ₹ 15-30. The owner of Bhati Tea Stall owns an Audi, said our auto wale bhayya.
“मतलब चाय वालों ने कयामत मचा रखी है !!” :)
7. Bakery "15 AD"
The Gypsy Dining Hall opens at 12 pm. We were early. While waiting, I spotted this bakery right in front of Gypsy. It's a 100% pure vegetarian bakery so people who do not eat egg, can also visit this.
Everything was freshly baked. I had tried Blueberry Cheesecake (Cliche? Try here) and loved it. Again stating not a fan of cheese but may be this is because I have not had the best ones yet.
Do not miss this, I repeat Do Not!
8.Makhaniya Lassi at Misri Lal: You must have heard about this place. The Lassi it offers is very fresh and damn tasty. A glass will cost you ₹ 50-70. But, try it after exploring other food options because you won't be able to eat a lot after having one glass of this (या शायद मैं ही कम खाती हूं।????).
8.Laddu at Mohan Jee Mithaiwala :
This is an old and famous shop in the old city. Try variety of laddus offered at this place. It costs ₹ 20 for each laddu unless you are buying in kg or half kg. All the sweets are made in pure desi ghee.
9. Le Monk Pizzeria, Raahi Hostel:
I'm not a fan of pizzas. In fact I don't like the taste of cheese at all and might have tried pizza for just 4-5 times in my life. I had to eat here because I was hungry late night and didn't want to go out.
We tried Maxican Pizza here which costed ₹ 250. They offer wood fried pizzas. To my surprise, I loved it to the core. The taste of cheese was different and very fresh.
Well, I might not be the right person to recommend Pizza if you are already a connoisseur. But, please give it a try.
This is all what I ate in 1.5 days in Jodhpur. But if you have big appetite please explore the following:
• Cold Coffe at Kedar Happiness Parlour
• Mirchi Bada and Samosa at Surya
• Chakki Sabji at Marwar Bhoojnalay
• Pulao at Sri Nath
Jaipur
For Jaipur as well I had a list of food places to be explored.
1. Mahaveer Rabdi House at Masala Chowk:
Masala chowk is a food truck kind of place where one can find a variety of food options. At mahaveer Rabdi house, try the Bejad Roti and aalu pyaaj ki sabji which comes with Mirch tipore and lehsun chutney.
This is a strong recommendation. Also, I had two plates . :)
2. Pyaaj Kachori at Rawat Mishthan Bhandaar:
Rawat Mishthan Bhandar is at a distance of 800 m from railway station. We had daal baati and pyaaj kachori here. Nothing lived up to the hype. My foodie friend gave a rating of 3/5 .
3. Kachori at Hawa Mahal:
There is a little shop near the ticket counter at Hawa mahal. It offers Kachori with kadhi and only kachori as well. Do not skip this! I repeat, do not!
4. Kesar Tandoori Chai at Gulab Jee Chai Wale: At Masala chowk only, you will find a shop with name "Gulab Jee Chai Wale" in a corner which offers amazing kesar tandoori chai for ₹ 60. It gave me the much needed warmth from the cold weather with the different amazing taste it has.
5. Dahi Bada and Malai Ghewar at Laxmi Misthan Bhandaar:
There are many other food items available at this shop. Dahi bada is very tummy filling and malai ghewar has just the right amount of sugar in it!
Definitely a recommendation!!
Apart from the above mentioned food items, one can try samosa & Kachori at Samrat shop which is at Chou Rasta, Faluda at Jaipur Faluda, Link Road, Chokhi Dhani, Paneer Tikka at Radheshyam Bhatia and many more. You will need 2-3 days of detox after getting high on Desi Ghee. haha!
