The Mysore Palace, the crowned jewel of the Wadiyar Dynasty, is visited by nearly 6 million tourists yearly - yet remains robbed of the reputation it has rightfully garnered for generations on end. The Palatial grounds, the interiors, the decor, all of it - has been preserved, as if it was frozen in time. The palace has a British feel to it, despite being a fort built in the 1800s - the reason for it, being that the palace was commissioned to architect Henry Irvin, who created the structure, as a fusion of Indian and Gothic architectural principles. The insides, which are still placated by arches and marbled, colorful floors - are home to a living, breathing museum by day; at night however, the grounds take on a life of their own. The entire fort is lit up by symmetric lighting across every inch. It's a shame, really - A monument so exquisite, so well kept, and so unlike anything else in the country - is relegated to a second tier status, all without any recognition attached.
