Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) is set to undergo significant developments that could improve your airport experience. As of now, all international flights are managed through Terminal 3 (T3) at IGI. However, there are plans to introduce two new international terminals in the near future.

The current focus is on Terminal 1 (T1) at IGI, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations slated to be completed by September 2023. Originally intended to be an all-domestic terminal, the surge in air travel post-pandemic has prompted authorities to consider equipping T1 to handle international flights as well.

According to a reliable source, "The expansion was initially planned for domestic operations. However, due to the unexpected rebound in air travel, work on T1 was accelerated to avoid delays. Once the renovations are complete, necessary clearances will be obtained from relevant government agencies to enable international flights at T1."

It is expected that T1 will gradually transition to serving both domestic and international flights, while Terminal 3 will primarily cater to Tata Group airlines (Air India-Vistara and AI Express-AirAsia India combined) and foreign carriers. Terminal 2 (T2) will continue to handle all domestic flights.

Currently, passengers face challenges when moving between terminals as there are no automated movers, such as air trains. This has resulted in instances where travelers find themselves at the wrong terminal, leading to last-minute rushes to their designated gates.

However, with the implementation of the new plan, these issues are expected to be resolved, offering a smoother and more efficient experience for passengers. Stay tuned for updates on these exciting developments at Delhi's IGI Airport!
