Bardez 1/undefined by Tripoto

Also known as Bardes, this is a region and taluka in the northern part of Goa and was initially discovered by Hindu immigrants who came and settled here from Magadha during Arya- Varta. This region is boundaried and locked by the north by the Chapora River. To the south of Bardez is the Mandovi river and to the east is the Mapusa River which originates over here. To the west of Bardez is of course the Arabian Sea. The word 'Bardez' simply means 'Bara Desh' or the big country. The legislative assembly of Goa is situated over here and the people of this place are known as Bardezcars. The local language is Konkani and the main attractions include the beaches of Baga, Calangute, Candolim, Sinquerium, Vagator village, Fort Aguada and a few more. This place is also the birth place of the famous Goan Saint Agnelo and thus a popular place for Christian visit too. The Goan and St. Xavier's Collegs and the College of Hotel Management are the main educational institutions over here. People come here in large number especially to explore the beaches and also to do shopping and gorge on some Goan influenced konkan delicacies.

There are several beaches within the radius of 10 km. But, if sun and sand don't interest you much or if you want to go beyond them this time, visit a lesser-known Dam and a 17th century church. Go on a boat ride with local fishermen. Have lunch by the river. Have dinner under the stars.
