So Dumas beach, where you barely can touch the water as it stays far from the shore. Once in a fortnight people can see water here. With that context, it is not exactly a beach which you find in Goa or other places. The beach area has rocks laid where people walk or just sit. The beach is crowded on Sunday mornings as Surtis love having the famous lashkar Bhajiyas (Indian dish consisting of vegetables deep fried in batter). You could have tomato, onion and potato bhajiyas. Among them the tomato bhajiyas are the must try.
Dumas village is also known for the haveli. The haveli is abandoned since long and the entry is restricted however the haveli is very beautiful from the outside. It has also been said that the haveli is haunted and because of this the beach is also said to be haunted. I don't know if it is really haunted or not! People say, that the dogs barks at night as they see spirits over there but it may be because there is a graveyard nearby this beach. I don't know if it is really true because I never visited the beach at night. If you love adventures you should try visiting at night :p
The second destination is the one which is not much explored and thus it is still beautiful; which is Gavier Lake. This lake is exactly opposite to Airport and before the Dumas beach. The place is open only on weekends and the entry charge is just Rs.50/-
This is generally explored by the photographers as migratory birds come to the lake. One could watch many migratory birds during winters.
The best time to visit the lake is the Monsoons. It is full of lush green trees and the lake is full of lotus.
One with the Nature.
So if you happen to visit Surat, do visit the beach and also the lake.
This little blog is for the one where I belong to...SURAT
If you come to Surat you are not going to get many tourist attractions, as Surat is all about business; from Diamonds to Textiles. But still there are few places to visit. Among them two of them are Dumas Beach and Gavier Lake which I am going to talk about.
