Telangana has long been a fertile ground for archaeological exploration. Despite the passage of time, discoveries continue to emerge.

According to the most recent information, two 1300-year-old temples have been discovered. A label inscription dating back 1200 years was discovered with two Badami Chalukya temples that date back more than 1300 years to the Badami Chalukyan period!

The Findings:

Telangana, with its diverse landscape ranging from lush forests to rocky hills, has long been a fertile ground for archaeological exploration.

Two such temples from the Badami Chalukyan period have been found by archaeologists from the Public Research Institute of History, Archaeology, and Heritage (PRIHAH), together with rare inscriptions that hold the key to unlocking a wealth of information about the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The temples were located in the village of Mudimanikyam beside the Krishna River in Telangana.

According to the experts, the historic temples have distinctive architectural styles that combine Badami Chalukyan and Kadamba Nagara elements.

Take a pyramid-shaped shikara, for example, with steps that rise and a pinnacle kalasha at the top. It is thought that these temples date back at least 1,300 years. An inscription on a pillar in a group of five temples is said to have been written during the Badami Chalukya dynasty in the eighth or ninth century AD.

One temple’s sanctum sanctorum has also yielded the discovery of a panavattam, or Shiva lingam base. An idol of Vishnu was found in another temple.

Experts say the find is important because it will shed further light on the religious practices of the Badami Chalukyan period.
