Casuarinas, Red Crabs And The Rustling Tales Of The Sea

Day 1

Tranquil waves, a dense casuarina thicket, and a fast-descending evening. You have miles to explore along a quaint beach, with no humans around. The remains of a few fishing vessels resonate the tales of the past, as the sea whispers its story of far flung lands. And you take yourself ages back into the past on this quaint, remote beach.

Baguran may not have found its name along the popular beaches along the Bay of Bengal, but this little-known seaside would take you into the sanctum of nature. If you are an explorer, or love visiting offbeat destinations, try out spending an evening at Baguran Beach, located 140 Kms. from Kolkata.

This is actually a fishing village, located 10 Km. from the junction of Contai. A relatively new entrant to the tourism circuit in Eastern India, this place is quite remote from the prime attractions along the Bay of Bengal. Nested in the same shoreline as Digha, Mandarmani, Udaipur, Talsari and Tajpur, the beach presents you with a world of ecstasy.

For travelers looking forward to reconciling themselves for a few days, or the ones who seek a break from their tedious schedules, Baguran would be the perfect getaway. If you love seclusion from the din of crowded sea beaches, isolate yourself in the only resort at Baguran, Sagar Niralay.

The afternoons at Baguran beach look spectacular. Millions of red crabs thrive in the sands. Along with this, you have the moss-green algae, turning the shoreline serene. With the golden radiance of the sun sparkling up the top of the waves, you have a different world to cherish.

Across the distance, the wreck of a few fishing vessels breaks the tedium of your vision. Well, you can take a bath on the beach during the daytime. You would love the shivers, particularly if you are at Baguran in December or January.

The narrow paths wear a nocturnal gloom after the sun pops behind the horizon. However, the villagers are hospitable, and you may happen to run into their huts, dotting the shoreline. If you love strolling along the beach, the shoreline would be ideal for you in the late evenings. The relaxed movement of shadows, roars of the sea and the ceaseless chirping of crickets would hallucinate you to eternity.

Casuarina, isolation, a starry night, and a BBQ dinner…

That’s what I call life.
