Amritsar , Punjab
Amritsar was more of a layover for us until we reach Himachal. We had just one night stay in Amritsar so we had to make the most of it.
The Golden Temple is just a mesmerizing site to behold, gold glistening under the black night sky. Peace,calmness and devotion resonating through those gold walls will make you feel right at God's home. One has to cover his head before entering to show respect to God.
The Partition Museum, Jallianwala bagh and Wagah Bordor(45 mins drive) are places where you find your patriotic self and appreciate those who are serving or served our country. Screaming "INDIA! INDIA! JAI HIND" will make your throat hurt and lungs gasping for air but the patriotism still shining bright.
Dalhousie,Himachal Pradesh
Finally, we are in Himachal and I was most excited to be in Dalhousie than any other place. Took us about 5hrs to reach from Amritsar to Dalhousie by our private Traveller.
Greeted by such an amazing landscape we got a basic gist of what Dalhousie had to offer.
Stay in Dalhousie : We opted for the Megha View hotel which cost under Rs1000 accomodating 2-3 teenagers as the bed, rooms are capacious.The cold is chilling so get yourself a heater for Rs300 or a big fat blanket, up to you.
It's just that the hotel is situated uphill from the main Indo-Tibetian market about 1hr downhill walk. .You can shop for shawls,cheap gloves and hats,Dalhousie souvenirs and the local Rhodo wine,Plum wine which are suprisingly cheap at the Indo-Tibetian Market.Visit the church nearby ,play with their dogs in the garden.Good Veg/Non-Veg food options are available nearby.I suggest you take that long walk, reason given below:
Initial Plan was to do Khajjiar, but unfortunately due to heavy snowfall just 2-3 days prior, everything was closed off. So we decided to explore some more view points nearby.
Things to do in Dalhousie that we missed: Khajjiar ,Satdhara Falls,Panchpula,Dainkund Peak.
Dharamshala , Himachal Pradesh
4 hrs journey through roller-coaster roads we reach Dharamshala. We were staying in International Youth Club which is actually in McLeodGanj .IYC is also situated uphill similar to Megha View Hotel but it overlooks the Triund hill.For us teenagers bunk bed suffice but they have options of normal beds too.
2hrs drive from IYC we arrived at the Dharamshala Cricket stadium.The stadium charges a nominal entrance fee.The stadium is a sight to behold with massive mountains in the background.
Shimla , Himachal Pradesh
Entering the heart of Himachal now. Shimla being the captial of himachal has more connectivity thus being more crowded and having a different vibe or rhythm compared to any other city in Himachal(excluding maybe Manali and Kullu). The Mall Road of Shimla is famous for boutiques offering good products at a cheap price and tasty street food along the way.
Our hotel stay was in Silicon Inn, 20mins from Mall Road.Our stay experience was great, the hotel service was very good. The hotel has a great panoramic view of Shimla City.
Next up , Kufri! 20kms from Shimla ,Kufri is a small hill station where one has to ride on a mule to reach the top which is a real challenge sometimes the mule slips launching you off!
Midway through the trip we felt like there was something missing! The Rush of Adventure that was. And what better place for adventure than Rishikesh. So a 7hr (271kms) detour was finalized and off we go for Rishikesh!
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand
Rishikesh! The perfect destination for the religious and the adventurous. We decided to stay in Mustache Hostel which cost us Rs800 per person including River Rafting & Cliff Diving (Rs500).Visiting the Laxman Jhula lit up at night was another awesome experience. Make sure you attend the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM every day.
Delhi
We arrived in Delhi a day before our departure.A day in hand we decided to explore the popular places in Delhi like Chandni Chowk, Humayun's Tomb ,etc.
