I Love exploring trails or walks around even when I am on a leisure holiday usually!
When I was planning to go to Seychelles, I not only started to look out for the best beaches to visit and places to stay, I looked for anything which can keep me active on my beach holiday. Besides, to be honest, I am more of a mountain person than a beach person, so I really need something more than just lazing around the beach, dipping, eating and drinking!
Having done scuba diving and snorkeling in various parts of the world, I wanted to do something different this time, hence I started searching for any day hikes around and Vola!!!, I found a perfect hike in the capital city of Seychelles, Mahe!
We landed in Mahe late in the evening and though it wasn't planned or we booked it in advance, we decided to rental car. The primary reason was the taxis were quiet expensive and though few people told us at the airport that you can take a local bus, we didn't find it very safe after dark!
So, here we were ready with our rental car to explore Mahe on our own! We always prefer to rent a car where possible as it always gives us so much freedom to explain things on our own and at a pace we want.
We drove straight to our hotel and crashed for an early start to go for a trek known as Copoila Trail in Mahe!
In the morning, after having our breakfast, we quickly started driving towards the trailhead which is a 30 minutes drive from the city. We parked our car on the roadside and started following the signs towards the starting of the trek.
Its a short trek and we took an hour and a half to reach the top, taking few breaks, enjoying the lush tropical forest on our way. The trail finishes at a granite mountaintop with 360 degree views of the sea and the city beneath!
Though it was not a perfect sunny day however the lush green trail, tropical flora amd fauna around & the views from the top were just amazing!!
We spent a good 30 minutes on the top, waiting for the clouds to get clear for a much clearer view, however it didn't get any better during the time.
If you are in Mahe, do take out a day to walk this trail and trust me you won't regret. Only recommendation is to wear a full sleeves dry fits as there are a lot mosquitoes due to the tropical forest which you go through. I was wearing a normal shorts and tank top and had many mosquito bites by the time I was back at the base!!!
Keep exploring!!!
So, that's all about my day trek to Copolia in Mahe. Please feel free to read about my experience in an island paradise of Seychelles "La Digue" here!!!
