Day 1

It all started with the idea of giving a birthday surprise. Packed the bags and started off the trip from Pune with birthday boy.You can reach Ooty by choosing various routes. One way to reach is via Banglore/Mysore . I opted for nearest airport from Ooty i.e. Pune to Coimbatore via flight and then covered remaining 85km(approx) distance to Ooty by road . You get cabs easily from main road outside the airport.Don't go for the taxis which are inside airport's premises as they would charge higher .

Here it goes.. our road trip in the state of Tamil Nadu . This was my first core south trip so i was really excited to see the city ,people around and the culture . For few km we crossed various small towns and then ghat section started from Mettulapalam which was around 40kms from Ooty . I was enjoying the zig zag roads, lovely greenery and super fresh atmosphere .

We crossed Coonoor on the way and from here itself started aromatic way. You read it right, there was an intense aroma in the air which would go deep down your nostrils and make you afresh . Don't worry if you are exhausted by this time due to long day , your headache will vanish within minutes after taking few deep breathes. Credit goes to plethora of eucalyptus trees. By the way do experience toy train from Coonoor to Ooty . Reach station little early for getting tickets . You would be amazed by seeing the magnificent view .

After travelling such a long distance we finally reached Ooty . Crossed a small market area , few hotels and then went uphill . After crossing tea factory it appeared as if we have entered forest area. I became skeptical about the place but my thought changed completely after reaching the the resort - Sinclairs Retreat . Glimpse of the city from this place was so enticing . Entire city appeared like little sparkling stars in the sky.

We checked in to the hotel and got the valley facing room . Resort had it all - beautiful ambiance , well maintained rooms , great service , perfect location . As soon as i woke up next morning ,i jumped out of bed to have a look outside window . I was awestruck to see the beauty. There was a lovely garden in front , blooming flowers and peaceful mountains. Got recharged by the mere view of it . Do stay at this place if you are planning to visit Ooty . Spend an evening exploring the property and the splendid view it offers .After getting ready we began our city expedition .

Day 2

Ooty Botanical garden was our first spot . Though i was not very hopeful about it but trust me this place proved me wrong . Multilevel garden built on the lower slopes of Doddabetta peak , huge variety of flaura with majestic view . There were few forest department shops which were selling natural oils . Do buy few natural oils from here.

After spending great time over here we headed towards rose garden . There were variety of multicolored roses . We thought of trying out some local food . In one of the small restaurant we tried idli sambhar and dosa with some peculiar kind of chutney and just loved it . Please do try local cuisine in any small restaurant .

It was already evening by this time and temperature was dropping more as it was monsoon season so we went back to hotel and played some indoor games over there .

Day 3

Next morning we went downhill towards the main market of Ooty . Luckily we spot a shop which gave bikes/scooty on rent and charged 400 bucks per day for bike. Its better to opt for this option to explore the city as local cabs/auto drivers would ask for a way too high price . Proper quilted jacket is needed if you wanna go for bike ride at this time as weather was too cold. I was enjoying the chilly ride thoroughly .

Visited Pine Forest and 6th mile where shooting for many songs and movies are done . It was as beautiful as an illusion .

En routing lush green forest we reached Pykara lake . Serene environment , majestic view , chilly weather with a hot coffee - absolutely intoxicating . On the way back to Ooty , it started raining cats and dogs . We had no choice but to stop in a dense forest area and luckily found a tapri where a lady was selling sweet corn . We took a halt over there , had some corns and waited for rain to stop . After sometime we started off again to Ooty .

Day 4

Our target for this day was Ooty's hill top - Doddabetta peak . It was already raining heavily when we began in the morning . On the way there were many tea estates and dense forest . Visibility was pretty low due to fog . View from the peak was spectacular . Light drizzle , foggy roads and incense of eucalyptus served as a euphoric experience .

Then we headed towards Tea factory which was walking distance from our hotel . Only fragrance inside the factory was of tea , tea and tea. There was a guided tour in the factory and we saw entire process of how tea is being prepared from tea leaves. It was worth watching . We purchased some home made chocolates and few varieties of tea . Then in the evening explored local market.

Day 5

Finally had to say good buy to the picturesque Ooty which rejuvenated my soul !

Visit Ooty any time of the year and it would never disappoint you . But if you are an ardent fan of nature , visit this place during monsoons . It would give you a chance to redefine beauty .
