I love mountains because it makes me realise how small my problems are. Every step I move forward I feel it's a challenge to me. It is like "Why am i doing this?", "Will I ever able to do it ?". There are several questions comes into my mind but one thing which I got for sure is "PEACE","HAPPINESS". The feeling you got after reaching the summit is immense and speechless.

Like we say every trek has a summit and every trekker has faith in themselves to reach the summit. But in mountains we worship Mountain God, If god is happy then we will be able to make it else "Better luck next time" :) . For every trekker reaching on the top is like "can't get better than this". Feeling which can't be expressed in words.

Enroute Tungnath each and every view is scenic. Everyone have their reason to go for a trek, My reason for trek is a view to die for and to challenge myself mentally. Chandrashila trek makes us realise that "Journey is more beautiful than the destination". Tungnath to chandrashila is 2 KM.

After trekking for long 5hrs we reached Tungnath, The highest Shiva temple. Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is the highest of the five Panch Kedar temples located in the mountain range of Tunganath in Rudraprayag district, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The Tunganath (literal meaning: Lord of the peaks) mountains form the Mandakini and Alaknanda river valleys. Located at an altitude of 3,680 m (12,073 ft), and just below the peak of Chandrashila, Tungnath temple is the highest Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to be 5000 years old and is the third (Tritiya Kedar) in the pecking order of the Panch Kedars. It has a rich legend linked to the Pandavas, heroes of the Mahabharata epic.

Once at the top of the peak, you get a 360 degree view of the mountains of Garhwal and Kumaon. Walk past a temple and see some great mountains of Uttarakhand, like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandaghunti, Kamet, Dunagiri, Chaukhamba, Kedar dome, Thalaysagar, Gangotri ranges, Jahanukut and more. The sunrise view from this spot is the best you will get to see in all of the Himalayas.

At Chandrashila, you find another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is believed to have been built by Rama to atone for the sin of killing Ravana. This temple is open from April to October.

When to Start Trek?

Its better to start trek as earliest as you can.It will give you lot of time and also you don't have to worry about the sunset when you are getting down.

What to keep with you ?

Take proper amount of water with you. Crampons to walk on snow, It will hold your grip and prevent you to fall on snow. Because when sun is up snow starts melting and it became slippery. Keep first-aid box with you.

Where to stay?

You can stay at Duggalbitta, Baniya kund, Chopta. You can find a stay easily in reasonable price. Keep good amount of warm cloth with you.

This is our experience of chandrashila. How was yours?
