Knuckles Range - Spectacular Picture Postcard from Sri Lanka

After creating wonderful memories at Polonaruwa, we headed towards central part of Sri Lanka and before Kendy, we visited Knuckles.

Fondly known as "Misty Mountains", Knuckles mountain range was something, we were skeptical to spend couple of days around as most tourists prefer to skip. Reading about it, it all felt like mountainous beauty, already read and experienced, while many other travels. Thanks to couple of people in group, who made sure we keep Knuckles on our list and made it happen.

Knuckles is a heaven for hikers and mountain bikers as well as photographers. Those numerous mountainous trails passing through clear rivers, dense forests, past flowing waterfalls and lush tea plantations are a dream come

Accommodation in the riverside hotel when we struggled with no power and no internet was memorable as it gave us memorable time to be with each other, to talk, to laugh and to share. That opportunity to visit traditional small mountain village in the area provided an insight into the close-knit atmosphere that such a local community fosters.

I believe, I need to stop verbal praises to have you pleasure of visual trip. But some pointers before that -

1. The region stretches 155 sq km that contains five major forest formations

2. Rising to heights of more than 1,800 metres, this conservation area’s spectacular scenery is wonderful

3. It is home to a unique variety of flora, fauna and culture

4. There are at least 1,033 species of flower and plants and approximately 255 species of trees

5. Mini worlds end is probably the highlight of the area which is almost untouched, naturally beautiful and gives panoramic glimpse of Knuckles Range

6. Weather is unpredictable in the mountain range and can turn around at any point of time.

7. Knuckles Conservation Forest was included in UNESCO natural world heritage list in 2010 as part of Central Highlands of Sri Lanka
