In the middle of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the actions of a Pakistani citizen have restored faith in humanity. An air traffic controller from Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority recently saved a plane flying from Jaipur to Muscat after the pilot of the flight sounded mayday alert due to bad weather. There were 150 passengers on board.
Sources said that the plane encountered lightning and bad weather conditions near the Chor area of the southern Sindh province. According to reports, the plane was flying over Karachi region on Thursday when lightning caused it to drop down from an altitude of 36,000 feet to 34,000 feet almost instantly.
The pilot immediately sent out mayday calls to nearby control stations. The air traffic controller from Pakistan responded to the call and guided the flight through the dense air traffic in the area for the remaining journey in the Pakistani airspace.
Amidst worsening ties between the two neighbouring countries, Pakistan had closed its airspace for Indian flights on February 26, 2019. After five months of imposed restrictions, the airspace was again opened on July 16.
As both countries continue to struggle to find common ground on various prevailing issues, the air traffic controller is being applauded by all. In the given scenario, his actions bring hope and spread positivity among the people, which is the need of the hour.
