Enveloped in the bounty of nature, in the lap of the enchanted castles of a vintage city with a tranquilizing gleam of sunshine showering down through the clear skies, a walk through the archaic streets of Prague is like time travel to days that shouted purity in its every form. Beauty, nature and peace: my journey to an inner exploration could have never met a better reception.

With rivers flowing eternally and a sun blessed with a never exhausting glare, I often look down at the human rules of drudgery and wonder if those were really necessary. Ages full of those boundaries of yours and mine, and those endless fights for survival render meaningless and incomprehensible to me for I feel nature is the lone assurance of life. In search of a place where my prickly itch could find some solace, where faith is an unquestionable obvious and rush isn’t the rule of existence, I found a lovely niche of just my type in the capital city of Czech.

Prague is situated in the north-west of the Czech Republic on the Vltava River. So yes, that means you have those lovely streams flowing all across the city, the waters of which draw love on their waves. It is a majestic capital that would take you to the kind of life in the 16th century with its castle complexes, horse-drawn carriages, a huge mechanical chime, soothing weather and a labyrinth of narrow streets and dramatic buildings.

IMPERIAL PRAGUE CASTLE

A walled fortress initially, the world’s biggest castle this is and its beauty will have you lost in the spells of timelessness. You need an entire day to drink its enthralling architectural designs, royal staircases, charming views of the Vltava River and a vast complex including St. Vitus Cathedral, the Golden Lane, St. George’s Basilica, the Powder Tower and the Royal Garden which is home to a host of tourist attractions. And while you are walking through the imperial reality, do not miss even an inch of a sight, be it the entrance to the Palace’s main hall, or the view of the adjacent gardens from the hall, or the interesting windows from where two governors were thrown, triggering a 30 year old war.

HISTORIC OLD TOWN SQUARE & THE ASTRONOMICAL CLOCK

While I keep telling you how Prague is a city of preserved antiquity and archaic beauty, a visit to the historic old town square will tell you why if nothing else did. Old Town Square is in the Old Town which is the historic center of Prague and the splendid architecture of this place dates back to as old as the 11th century. Perhaps that explains the prefix historic to the Old Town Square. There are a lot of highlights to this place like the Tyn Church (which is scary looking really), the Clementinum and other churches, and the Gothic doorway (which is a chapel dating back to 1381 and an old prison). Though, the one thing that remains the favorite of time and history is the Prague Astronomical Clock, which is a 600 year old mechanical chime and still working! It is said that this is the third oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still alive!

THE LENNON WALL

Perhaps this wouldn’t literally be counted as a tourist attraction, and even I did not plan to visit this despite having heard about it while I was looking for places. But it is across the side alley near Charles Bridge and if you are at that side of the bridge, there are high chances that you will just end up near the wall accidently, like the way I did. And it is beautiful. Both, the wall and the stories that go. I mean, you will definitely be delayed on your walk by at least 30 minutes by this wall, and more if you have the slightest inclination towards art. So the stories tell that after the murder of John Lennon, a former Beatle and peace campaigner, fans took to this wall, painting pictures, writing slogans and praying and demonstrating their grief. Though there was lots of fight that followed with the police trying to curb the agitation and all those sorts of things, but the wall has stood through the test of time and remains there as one of the most beautiful graffiti.

PETRIN TOWER

Like I have been telling you, it is love in the air of the city. And to make it more symbolic, they have this little Eiffel Tower, called the Petrin tower, though completely different in its design and size from the French counterpart (which is about five times the size of the Petrin), it still somehow manages to be just as romantic. It has 299 steps that lead to its top for the lovers of romantic adventures. Of course, do not worry, there is a lift too, though I will strongly recommend the steps if your knees haven’t become the victim of age yet. And the name, I forgot, is taken from the Petrin Hill on which the structure stands.

CHARLES BRIDGE

Try your feet on this and I bet you of a feeling similar to that of walking on a set of a movie. Flirty movements of the wind, magical mix of orange and purple in the sky and a bird that occasionally lands up on the path out of nowhere, teasing you with its music and dance; I honestly thought I was some princess in some movie going to meet my Prince Charles. In one word, I will say the experience was of liberation, liberation from I don’t know what. The Charles Bridge is 520 meters long and a place that has been home to lots of superstitions. The bridge on both sides has statues of saints, 30 in total, including that of Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. Of course, like anywhere on the city, the view of Vltava River from here too is mesmerizing!
