I am always in the lookout for lesser-known and unexplored places. This has two advantages – For once, I find the solitude and peace that I crave for after long hectic weeks of work. Secondly, it has now become my passion to look out for these nice little places hidden from the prying eyes. So when I heard about backwaters in Andhra Pradesh, I was intrigued about the place. We always almost relate backwaters with Kerala. So without thinking much I decide to head towards Dindi.

Things to do at Dindi

Boat ride at Godavari

You can definitely take a boat ride at the Godavari River. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism’s Harita resort has boats in which you can take a ride across the Godavari River.

There are also a few adventure activities like Jetski ride, rope walking if you want to indulge in some activities.

Visit the Antervedi Beach

The Godavari River meets the Bay of Bengal at the Antervedi beach. The beach can be easily reached by hiring a cab from the hotel. Visit the beach during the sunset to view a spectacular sunset. The beach is probably a wonderful place to take a long romantic walk.

Visit the Antervedi Temple

The Antervedi Temple or the Lakshmi Narasimhaswami Devasthan is situated just beside the beach. It is a beautiful temple having wonderful stucco work and vibrant colours. Pay a visit to the temple and enjoy the serenity of the place.

There are other temples in the area also. If you do not have much time, then I would suggest not to miss the Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple because of its Gopuram with wonderful work.

Walk around in the villages

The best way to know a place is by walking around the place. Take a walk around the village along the palm and casuarina trees. Enjoy the freshness of the crisp air and explore the place. But if you are not conversant in Telegu, it will be difficult to strike a conversation with the locals.

Take a houseboat ride

You can take houseboat cruises to explore the backwaters of the Dindi. There are two houseboats here, but I found the cost of rentals of these houseboats much on the higher side. A houseboat for the full day costs INR 16000 and for 12 hours it is INR 12000.

Bird watching in Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary

You can go for bird watching in the Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a full day activity and I would suggest you to do it if you are fond of bird watching. The sanctuary has more than 120 species of birds.
