No doubt, Goa has always been a beach destination, but it has got the other beautiful sides too. For the adrenaline junkies and people searching a break from sand and sea, Goa offers you some enchanting and breathtaking beautiful waterfalls.

Being a pearl of Western Ghat and a number of rivers flowing by, Goa is blessed with some splendid waterfalls. Let’s explore another feather in cap of Goa- its waterfalls.

Things to keep in mind

• Keep something to eat as no food is available near to all the falls.

• Keep the environment clean and do not throw any garbage near to falls.

• When going in rainy season, keep raincoat and umbrella with you.

1. Dudhsagar Waterfall

This waterfall definitely needs no introduction. One of the highest waterfalls in India (310 m), located in Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary at Goa-Karnataka border literally looks like ‘ocean of milk’ in monsoon.

How to Go

By Road

You can go via road which will take around 2 hour 15 min to reach Kulem from Panjim. Even if you are going via your own vehicle, you are not allowed to take it to Dudhsagar waterfalls. You have to hire a vehicle from Dudhsagar waterfalls taxi association, Kulem. Jeeps and SUVs available from Kulem cover the further distance to take you to Dudhsagar falls. The vehicles are available on shared basis. Generally, they accommodate 6-7 persons per vehicle charging around Rs 600-700 per head. Life jacket is compulsory before starting the journey further towards the fall.

Another way to reach the fall from Kulem is to trek along with rail tracks, tunnels and inside the wildlife sanctuary.

By Train

The nearest railway station is Kulem. The taxi stand is 5 min walk from the railway station. Check the train timings from Vasco station before planning your trip.

Dudhsagar Waterfalls

A true marvel of nature!! This four tier waterfall is truly a retreat to the eyes. Especially just after the monsoon, the falls are in their full allure. The ‘Chennai express’ moment when a train passing on the bridge crossing the waterfalls and water flowing down in its full ablaze gives a perfect example of amalgamation of beauty of nature and techniques of engineering.

It takes almost 45 - 60 min to reach to the waterfalls from Kulem. The ride assures you to be scenic yet adventurous. Here, you can also fulfil the desire to bath in a waterfall in the chilling water on the base of this waterfall. The SUV driver will give you around 90 mins to enjoy there after which they will take you back to Kulem.

One can also enjoy elephant rides and spice plantation in Kulem.

Day 2

2. Netravali Waterfalls

A wildlife sanctuary blessed with two beautiful and serene waterfalls ‘Savari’ and ‘Mainapi’ is located in Sanguem Taluka in Eastern Goa. Rich in biological and ecological heritage, Netravali is a small hamlet amongst the lush greenery of Sahyadri hills. To reach these waterfalls, a trek crossing through forest, wild life and river is required.

How to Go

The starting point of the trek Netravali village is easily accessible from Panjim by road. A further 3 Km trek will lead to base of Savari waterfall. In order to reach ‘Mainapi’ waterfall, further a steep trek is required.

Savari and Mainapi Waterfalls

The beauty of the gushing waterfalls is something to behold. The adventurous trail of trek goes through dense forests, beautiful butterflies and a stream flowing through your side. The whole trekking trail will run side by side of the river.

The waterfalls are well tucked deep inside the wildlife sanctuary. The natural pool at the base of Savari waterfall is enough to take away your all the stress. The interesting island of pebbles formed at the bottom of Mainpai waterfall is truly exotic.

Netravali wild life sanctuary is also famous for Budbudyachi talli or bubble lake. Go and watch another wonder of nature where a lake constantly bubbles and where the intensity of bubbles increases with intensity of your clap.

Day 3

3. Harvalem Waterfall

Harvalem or Arvalem waterfalls are small but beautiful waterfall located in Arvalem near Sanquelim in South Goa. A comparatively safe waterfall turns into a riotous and ravishing sight in and after monsoon.

How to Go

Buses are available from Kadamba Bus Stand, Panjim to Mapusa or Sanquelim. A further 2 Km walk is required to reach the waterfalls from Sanquelim by public transport. The waterfalls are merely 5 min walk if you are going by your own vehicle.

Harvalem Waterfalls

A 50 m tall waterfall reaches its zenith during monsoon. Surrounded by the majestic hills and green forest, this waterfall keeps your eyes stuck on it. The thundering noise of waterfalls can be heard from a distance.

This site is also famous for Arvalem caves and Rudreshwar temple which are on a walking distance from the waterfall.
