Andhra Pradesh’s Kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary in Vishakhapatnam that is spread across 7,146 hectares along the NH-16 has undergone a major facelift. This ecological gem, nestled amidst the Eastern Ghats, has been revitalized to enhance its natural beauty and offer a more immersive wildlife experience to visitors. The extensive renovation efforts have resulted in an upgraded sanctuary that promises to captivate nature enthusiasts and conservationists alike. Known to be one of the major green zones of the city with its green hills, forest and reservoir, forest department has made special arrangements for visitors that include boating and various viewpoints in the reserve forest.

The comprehensive makeover of Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary encompassed various aspects, including infrastructure development, conservation measures, and visitor amenities. These initiatives were undertaken with the aim of preserving the sanctuary's biodiversity while providing a delightful experience for tourists.

What All Have Been Added?

The sanctuary's trekking tracks have been revitalized, while the addition of bamboo frames at picturesque spots has provided visitors with perfect selfie opportunities. Moreover, a canteen, ropeway, zipliner, Burma bridge, and other amenities have been installed to enhance the overall experience.

The sanctuary boasts three trekking tracks, including a recently developed 3-kilometer trail. The authorities at Kambalakonda have diligently revamped the existing tracks, which were previously in poor condition. Currently, a 7-kilometer trail is nearing completion, and another 2-kilometer track is already available for exploration.

To ensure trekkers' convenience, the forest department has thoughtfully placed wooden chairs at various points along the trails. Information boards throughout the sanctuary provide details about the diverse range of endemic flora and fauna, as well as the abundance of bird species and trees.

Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary serves as a haven for an array of animals, including jackals, civets, rabbits, mongooses, spotted deer, sambar, and various species of snakes. Birdwatchers will also find this sanctuary a paradise, as it attracts a myriad of avian species.

For the entertainment of children, the authorities have developed two viewpoints and a boating facility, in addition to three designated picnic spots. Moreover, wooden machans and three pagodas have been constructed, providing visitors with elevated platforms to observe the sanctuary's mesmerizing beauty.

The park receives an average daily footfall of over 300 visitors, which increases to around 500 on weekends. The months of August and September witness a surge in visitor numbers due to various festive occasions celebrated during that time. As a result, the sanctuary's monthly income has seen a significant improvement, exceeding 4 lakh rupees.

The dedicated efforts of the forest department, combined with the newly established facilities, have truly transformed Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary into a destination that offers adventure, serenity, and an opportunity to connect with nature.
