Hogenakkal Tourism and Travel Guide

Hogenakkal in Tamil Nadu is home to the most enchanting waterfall. The Hogenakkal Waterfall flows from where the Kaveri river splits into myriad streams of frothy water and makes for a major tourist attraction. Often compared to the Niagara Falls in Canada, the flow of water here is so strong that boating is only allowed during the "dry season", when the water current is manageable. Besides these breathtaking falls, the emerald hills of Melagiri are a great site to visit. These dry deciduous and evergreen forests are perfect for thrilling treks and bird watching. A few kilometres off Hogenakkal, the Mettur Dam is another attraction. An architectural marvel in its own right, the dam is an important hydro-electrical station as well as a quaint little picnic spot. Hogenakkal can be easily reached by both rail and road, the nearest railway station being the Dharmapuri railway station. It is about 47 km away and taxis are easy to find. Regular bus services are also available.
