We've often heard that marriages are made in heaven, but how often have you heard of a wedding that takes place in the sky!? Yes, you read it right. At a time when COVID-19 cases are still skyrocketing within India, a couple from Madurai, Tamil Nadu flouted all COVID-19 restrictions to get married mid-air on a plane!
Here's how this bizarre wedding took place
When Tamil Nadu announced the extension of lockdown to May 31, 2021, a couple from the state who were to get married, decided to hire a chartered SpiceJet flight for the ceremony. What's absolutely shocking is that all their relatives were onboard to witness the in-flight wedding take place. This is not it. While the couple ensured that none of their near and dear miss their wedding, they even kept the almighty in mind. How, you ask? Well, according to reports, they tied the knot the moment the plane crossed the revered Meenakshi Amman Temple of Tamil Nadu.
This happily ever after came with great risk
Whilst India continues to battle with a deadly second wave of COVID-19, this mid-air wedding has garnered severe criticism. Reportedly, the wedding guests flouted all rules of social distancing inside the flight and were not seen wearing their masks properly despite repeated requests. Seeing the photos that went viral on social media, The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered that strict action be taken against the couple and their family. In a more serious repercussion, the entire crew has been derostered after the incident.
Dear reader, whether you are aching to get married or itching to head out for a vacation, here's a gentle reminder that nothing is worth risking your life and the lives of those around you.
