So these spellbinding photos below are from Chakrata, a hidden gem in the hills of enchanting Uttarakhand. I took these pictures during a research project three years back.
The reason why I am sharing this is Chakrata is no longer alien to the travel freaks, but if you travel further, there is a village called Makti in Kalsi tehsil, where people halt en-route to Mussourie and another village named Matiawa in the same district.
We, a group of three people, stayed there in a lodge for two weeks as our target village Matiawa was around 6 kms from Makti village.
So if you have the hunger to explore the unexplored...pack your bags and set off for these quaint little villages. One can easily cover these two villages in a day or two.
Important tip: Do carry food and water bottles as the shops are very scanty in these places.
How we reached: Took an Hrtc bus to Dehradun, from there another bus to Vikasnagar. From Vikasnagar, we traveled to Chakrata by Cab. Direct buses from Dehradun to Chakrata is available. Makti and Matiawa can reached by foot or by cab.
Where we stayed: We stayed in a small lodge named Himalayan lodge as there were no other options but there are many hotels in Chakrata.
