You can go couch surfing there if its available or choose a homestay and live with someone. Some people are really nice and they travel with you over there. its always better to travel with locals than to travel with other tourists, it helps you to immerse in their culture way better and its a more global experience.

Camping in the woods is not permitted in/around Kudremukh. People usually visit the Wildlife park or go for Kudremukh trek in that area.
You need to have a permission from the forest official and must have a guide if you are going for the trek. A homestay at the local village is a good option to consider if you have enough contacts. On the contrary, if you want to avoid all the headache of arranging stay and getting permissions, opt to go with an organized group. Can provide you the link if you are interested.
