Nanda Devi

True freedom lies only in travelling.... There can be nothing more empowering and freeing than travelling in an open chair car (Gondola) at Auli..Rightly called the Skiing Capital of India this place is no less than the Jannat-E Kashmir or the Mighty Himachal. Auli falls in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at a height of 9800 ft above sea level..

The world's highest artificial lake at Auli makes it even more special as it's rare to find a place with all 4 combinations – Mountains,Lake,Snow and Gondola. The ideal time to visit Auli should be Feb-Mar to witness all the above 4 combinations. The picturesque around Auli is mind blowing and the soothing pleasant weather makes it perfect where one can see the tallest Nanda Devi,Trishul,Hathi,Mana and Kamet peaks in vicinity with the Garhwal ranges.

3 Kms from Auli will take you to the panoramic Gurso-Bugyal.Oak and conifer trees around this region makes it even more splendid to watch. An intrepid traveller can even go further to Kwani Bugyal, the meadow from where one can view the Mighty Nanda Devi and Mt Dungari very closely. The famous Lord Curzon trail-Kuari Pass and the Tapovan trek also expands from Gurso Bugyal and can be trekked in 2 days time depending on the traveller.

Auli:::Travelling in an open chair amidst of all the tallest peaks and Garhwal ranges was something that I had never experienced in my whole life.It was like a nightmare for me to have sighted this experience.Hands can even tremble to open your camera at that stage when you are in the open Gondola. It is not that expensive to travel in an open Gondola which takes around 250 RS to and fro per traveller. My journey began from Delhi as usual and I took a train to reach Haridwar..Not wasting much time in Haridwar,I hired a car to reach Joshimath. After a tired and hectic journey I planned to stay the night in Joshimath. There are abundant hotels and rest houses near Joshimath so one need not worry about prior bookings. The next morning,Auli was in front of my eyes and much to my surprise I was astonished and stunned by the mesmerizing views of the peaks of Trishul and Nanda Devi. This place is free from too much human interference and a wonderful place to seek solace and comfort. It's one of the places in India which can be covered in a few days time to escape from the huddles of life. The view of mountain ranges across Auli is breath taking and enough for a like minded traveller to get lost in a skiing land.Skiing is practiced in Auli during the winter months without much huddles and after the ropeway from Joshimath to Auli got closed we are only left with motorable transport to reach Auli from Joshimath. Food both veg and non veg (Indian and Chinese) can be taken here without much debating.Rest houses are attached to restaurants which can be booked the same day one reaches Auli but its a bit expensive as compared to hotels in Joshimath. If a Traveller is thinking that mountains are calling them then Auli should be taken very seriously in one's mind!!!!!!
