7:00 a.m.: There’s nothing like an early morning trek in the beautiful Nilgiris. While the Doddabetta Peak trek takes about 8 hours, you can also climb up till a certain point just to soak in the crisp invigorating mountain air. We’re sure you’ll love the experience!

9:30 a.m.: On the foothills of Doddabetta are the oh-so-beautiful Botanical Gardens of Ooty. The most photographed place in Ooty boasts of a wide range of exotic flora, a glass house, well-planned gardens and the 20-million-year-old fossilised tree, which is sure to be the highlight of your visit.

11:30 p.m.: Head over to West Coast Bakery, one of the most popular bakeries in Ooty to try out the local special Varkey. Made of wheat, semolina, ghee, salt and sugar, it is best enjoyed with a delicious cup of tea. Ooty's homemade chocolates also make for great souvenirs so make sure you pack a few of those while leaving from here.

12:30 p.m.: Opt for a guided tour through The Tea Factory and Museum to learn everything about India’s favourite beverage. The tour ends with a tea sampling session and an opportunity to take packs of Nilgiri special tea as souvenirs for friends back home.

4:00 p.m.: After lunch, head to the idyllic Rose Garden, a one-of-its-kind attraction in Ooty.

8:30 p.m.: How about High Tea at one of the most luxurious heritage hotels in Ooty? You guessed it right! Fernhills Palace is a must visit even if you are not staying over. There’s no better place to try out the Nilgiri special tea we would say!

If you have more time, a visit to Glenmorgan tea estate (25 kilometres from Ooty) is strongly recommended. This is a great place to experience the vastness of tea gardens, take in the fresh aroma of tea and indulge in tea picking.

2:30 p.m.: Enjoy a relaxed lunch at one of the many restaurants in Ooty. Earl’s Secret Restaurant is located inside a heritage hotel, is beautifully done up in colonial style architecture and offers multi-cuisine food. You can also head to Adyar Ananda Bhavan or Junior Kuppana for delectable South Indian cuisine.

You’ll find beautifully manicured gardens here and also huge figures in different shapes like that of a train, birds, a sitar and more. The garden also flaunts a huge rose (made of hundreds of red roses) placed in one of the lawns.

5:30 p.m.: Great idea to save the evening for a boat ride and a memorable stroll around Ooty Lake. You can choose from paddle, row or motor boats here.

During the day, you can also rent a cab to visit Pykara Lake and Falls, located 20 kilometres away from the town. A relaxing boat ride and tons of fun-filled moments splashing water on your loved ones await you here.

How to Reach Ooty?

By Air: Coimbatore Airport is the closest to Ooty (100 kilometres) and the drive to the hamlet takes about three hours.

By Train: Hop onto the toy train from Mettupalayam or Coonoor to Ooty. The ride is a picturesque one, offering many fun-filled moments and photo opportunities. The former is a 5-hour joyride while the latter takes less than 1.5 hours.

By Road: Ooty’s easy accessibility from Bangalore (278 kilometres) and Kozhikode (157 kilometres) make it a popular weekend getaway option from both cities. Not to mention the drive in the Nilgiris, which is definitely a beautiful one.
