We started our journey from Ratnagiri on 3 Jan 20 at night and headed to the Mangalore central station from where we booked a zoom car and drove till Honey pot homes. We reached around lunch on 4 Jan 2020. Tired and famished we ate and slept immediately. In the evening we just rested. I got up early in the morning to soak in the beauty and peace of my lush green surroundings. At night we had dinner in the tree house by the fire place.
Neither my words nor the photos can describe how rested I felt here. You just want to soak in the beautiful bird cries while sipping coffee and sitting in the balcony of your accommodation or the numerous other corners in this rustic quaint and charming property; it’s beautiful in a different way, the coffee plantations have a wilderness to them but not such that you cannot walk through it.
I came here with my 22 month old baby and hubby and this place totally caters to everyone . My dd enjoyed and tired herself out at the tree house, the swings, running around through the plantation pathways.
But I can totally imagine myself on a solo trip here just to get away from it all. I recommend it for all tired mums who are wanting to catch a breadth , the temperature of this place is just perfect one just needs a shrug or a stole to walk away into the twilight. The pathways just make you learn how important it is to enjoy the present.
Today we just walked around the property checking out all nooks and corners The USP being our dinner by the fire place in the tree house.
Most Instagrammable spot -During the tour of the coffee estate be sure to ask the manager to show you the most instagrammable spot of 2019 amidst the plantation and tall trees.
Tripoto's Secret Tip Later at night we went to the Big Cup cafe just down the road to try their coffee . It’s been one of the best caramel lattes I have had so far.
Pro Trip - 1) Get lucky & Sight a flying squirrel or a wild boar or even a monkey 2) Do not miss the coffee estate tour at this home stay.
Best Suited for- Everyone but even more so for families travelling with small babies. The homestay food was very palatable and I had no worries about giving it to my baby . In fact it was perfect and low on unnecessary spice and oil.
Raja Seat Garden and Abbi Falls.
After breakfast we headed to the Raja seat garden. It's beautifully maintained with large animal figures that the kids can enjoy; this was followed by Abbi falls . By lunch we were back at our homestay where we had a filling meal. Post lunch we purchased dates wine , and some homemade chocolates. I ended my day with the coffee plantation tour.
In the morning on 05 Jan 20 we checked out of Honey Pot Homes and Checked in to the Amanvana resort.I went to the spa and enjoyed an open air movie at night.
Dubare Elephant Camp and Buddhist monastery
We headed to the Dubare Elephant camp and the monastery on the second last day of our stay.
We returned to the resort by afternoon and at 1530 hrs I headed for the river trek organised at the resort.
This activity was the highlight of the day and an experience that is highly recommended.
Pro Tip : The resort is a village in itself. Discover the nooks and corners hidden gems. Book the river side seating areas in advance or as soon soon as you checkin .
Conclusion
It was truly a rabbit hole for the soul and finally our trip came to an end. It was good to experience both a homestay and a luxury resort at Coorg. I wasn't especially excited by the tourist spots there but what took my heart away was coffee plantation estate of Honey pot homes and the river trek at the Amanvana resort .
Visit to the Dubare Camp is enjoyable but the plight of the elephants broke my heart.
Coorg is a retreat and good for losing yourself in the lush green surroundings.
